U-13 KNIGHTS HANG ON - MAY 18th
Bob Rhein - 5/19/2009

The Eastern York KNIGHTS hung on to a narrow lead with 9:50 minutes left in the game to win the game 6-5 at Jim Macks field.  The victory places the KNIGHTS into the semi-finals against the winner of the Dallastown/South Eastern game tonight.  The KNIGHTS jumped out to an early lead with a 3 goal lead in the first.  In the second period, the KNIGHTS added to their lead including a goal with 15 seconds left in the quarter to take a commanding 5-2 lead into halftime.  But the West York Canines rallied in the third quarter.  After Eastern made it 6-2, the game seemed to be over as West York picked up three penalties early in the third quarter.  As the KNIGHTS attempted to attack the goal, West York obtained possession and proceeded to run down the the field to score making it 6-3.  Two more goals late in the third and ten seconds into the fourth quarter brought West York (and their cheering fans) back into the game as the score reflected 6-5.  The fourth quarter action was intense on both sides of midfield with Trevor Swetizer of West York posting in excess of 15 total game saves.  Lucas Barshinger and Austin Roberts kept the Canines to just 5 goals the entire game.  With ten seconds left and possession of the ball at midfield, the Canines had one more chance to tie things up.  As the whistle sounded and the game concluded, emotions (tears) were flowing on both sides of the field.  The West York players, coaches and parents should be congratulated for an outstanding game and a tremendous season.  The only losses the Canines suffered were to the KNIGHTS this year.  Both this game and the title game at the Lumberjacks Shootout were two of the most exciting U-13 youth games in the KNIGHTS two year history.  Congratulations to the KNIGHTS as they advance on to the next round of the playoffs.
