2008 EASTERN YORK KNIGHTS

The Eastern York KNIGHTS are the 13th lacrosse club to join the York County Lacrosse Association (YCLA).  Founded in the winter of 2007, the KNIGHTS program was introduced to boys who attend school in the Eastern York School District.  Those schools include Wrightsville Elementary, Kreutz Creek Elementary as well as Canadochly Elementary School.  In 2008, the list expanded to Eastern York Middle School.

Two levels of play were offered for the Spring of 2007.  Since the Association changed to an aged-based structure, the two teams consisted of a U-9 team as well as a U-11 team.  The KNIGHTS had 23 boys participating who met the age requirements from grades 2nd through 5th.

The primary objectives for the first year were:

* teach the fundamental techniques of lacrosse.
* introduce team aspects of the sport (offense & defense).
* reinforce the ROOTS sportsmanship aspect of Rules, Opponents, Officials, Team, Self.
* and most importantly, to have a lot of FUN!

We are pleased to share that the objectives were not only met, but exceeeded.  Without question, all 23 boys showed significant improvement from the first practice in early March to the last game held in mid May.

In the spring of 2008, the KNIGHTS expanded their program to include a U-13 team in addition to a U-11 and U-9 team.  The Club grew nearly double for the amount of players as well as the number of coaches.

For the spring of 2009, the KNIGHTS will again offer a U-13, U-11 and U-9 team.  And now this spring, the age cut-off is September 1st so whatever the age of the player is as of 9/1/08 will determine the age classification for this season.  As an example, if your son was 10 in August of 2008, then your son was 10 as of 9/1/08 and will qualify for our U-11 team.  If your son was 11 in October of 2008, then your son was 11 as of 9/1/08 and would qualify for our U-13 team.

If you have any questions or might be confused, please email  Coach Bob Rhein.

We extend a sincere THANK YOU to the Administration and Teachers in the Eastern York School District who enabled us to share the opportunity to play.  A special thanks goes out to Rebecca Toman and Mark Guyer for introducing lacrosse to the students at EYMS.  Although the sport is not sanctioned or affiliated with EYSD, we have been able to send home flyers announcing the start and expansion of the program for the boys who attend school in the Eastern York area.

Thank you EYSD!
