TO:  All U-9, U-11 and U-13 Eastern KNIGHTS Lacrosse Parents, Players & Coaches,

 Updated on 6/3/08 @ 1:05 pm...

Keep your fingers crossed that the weather holds out for us tomorrow.  Rain or shine, the picnic goes on as scheduled.  Here are updated directions to the Stickler’s home for parking purposes…thanks.

From the intersection of 462 and Cool Creek: Go 2.1 miles on Cool Creek Road (just past Eastern HS & MS), turn right onto Adams Road. About a ¼ mile on left look for sign for Eastern Knights Lacrosse Picnic.

It’s hard to believe that this may be the last email coming from Coach Bob for a number of months.  Below are the details for the picnic next week.  We do not have a rainout date so I suppose that rain or shine, we will be celebrating the season at the Sticklers home.  Thank you David and Theresa for opening up your home to our program.  Although we do not have any more games left, always remember…have FUN and Honor The Game!

ROOTS==> HONOR THE GAME:

This is an abbreviation for:

Rules ==> We refuse to bend the rules

Opponents ==> A worthy opponent is a gift that brings out our best

Officials ==> Show respect even when we disagree

Teammates ==> Never do anything to embarrass our team

Self ==> We live up to our own standards even when others don't

* LACROSSE MAGAZINE STORY:

Attached is a scanned copy of this months Lacrosse Magazine which had a story regarding our fundraiser with the Worlds Longest Running Lacrosse Game back in March.  The boys will each begin to receive this magazine every other month for the next year as a member of US Lacrosse.  Unfortunately, the story came out prior to them being officially in the database from US Lacrosse.  It’s pretty cool that we received national recognition with our event again this year!

* SUMMER LACROSSE CAMPS:

For now, you can gather information on our York County Lacrosse Association website at www.yorkcountylacrosse.org and click on summer camps/announcements.  I will briefly share some information during the picnic regarding what camps might be appropriate for the players to attend.  These camps are completely optional for those who may want to work on their fundamental skills in the off season.

* EQUIPMENT & UNIFORM RETURN:

Each player is asked to bring back their uniforms and team equipment the day of our picnic.  Please follow these instructions so that I can inventory the items quickly and accurately.  I would like the parents to help each of the players to take care of the tasks below.

JERSEYS/PANTS:  Both should be washed (COLD WATER) and clean.  Please hang to dry.   Please inspect both items.  Any grass stains should be sprayed with “Shout” or “Spray and Wash” and washed again.  Please do your best to insure the jerseys and pants look their best.  Please place both items over the shaft of the stick after all the other equipment is stacked up onto the shafts.

STICK:  Please wash in warm soapy water the entire stick (both the shaft and head/mesh).  Brush the mesh to get out any mud or dirt that may have been left on the sticks after the last week of games.  All the tape on the stick will need to be peeled off completely.

HELMET:  Please take a wet wipe or warm soapy water and thoroughly wash both the inside and outside of the helmet.  Please remove your mouth guards and dispose of them.  Please wash out the chin strap with warm, soapy water.  Please remove all the KNIGHTS helmet stickers that the player may have earned during the season.  Please remove the KNIGHTS helmet logo stickers that are on either side of the helmets.  Please remove the American flag sticker.  PLEASE LEAVE ON THE TEAM NUMBER STICKER THAT IS ON THE BACK OF THE HELMET SO I KNOW WHOSE HELMET IT BELONGED TO.  AND PLEASE LEAVE ON THE FLAME STRIPS THAT ARE ON TOP OF THE HELMETS.  Some of the players dragged their helmets on and off the field so take the time to thoroughly clean the outside of the helmet.  If there is any sticker glue left on the helmets, use a light amount of nail polish to remove the glue and then wash the fluid off the helmet so it does not crack the plastic coating and paint.

SHOULDER PADS:  Please take a wet wipe or warm soapy water and thoroughly wash both the inside and outside of the shoulder pads.   Please make sure the pads contain all their straps.  Please spray on “Fabreeze” if there is an odor to the pads.

RIB PADS:  These can be washed along with the arm pads in cold water with bath towels.  Please place in the dryer on a light cycle to dry without over heating the pads.

ARM PADS:   These can be washed along with the rib pads in cold water with bath towels.  Please place in the dryer on a light cycle to dry without over heating the pads.

GLOVES:  Take a wet wipe or warm soapy water and thoroughly wash both the inside and outside of both gloves.  Please make sure the strings are still on the gloves.  Please dry completely before returning.  Please spray on “Fabreeze” if there is an odor to the gloves.

Once all the equipment and uniforms are clean, follow this procedure:

  • Slide the two gloves onto the stick first.
  • Slide the helmet down onto the shaft next.
  • Slide the arm pads onto the shaft.
  • Slide the shoulder pads next.
  • Slide the rib pads next.
  • Slide the shorts onto the shaft.
  • Slide the jersey onto the shaft.

All the items should be carefully stacked on the shaft so that I can transport them from the party to my home without losing any items.  When you arrive to the picnic, there will be a location to place your equipment and your list below so that I can store these items until next year.  Thank you for taking the time to help me with this.  It will save me a few days work if each of you take care of this for me.

* FEEDBACK FOR COACH BOB:

Each year at the end of the season, I invite and welcome all the boys (and parents) to share with me their feedback in regards to the season.  This is my 10th year coaching lacrosse and my 7th year involved specifically with elementary/middle school age boys.  Many of the things we did this spring came as a result of the feedback from the players and parents in years past.  I am one who is always open to honest and specific feedback in an effort to improve.  My goal at the beginning of the season was to build a program to enable the boys to develop an interest in the sport of lacrosse.  Three months of their hard work is now history and hopefully a foundation that we can expand on for next year and beyond.  I look forward to introducing a U-15 team into our Club next year as 5 of our boys will be in that age level.  I would love to have a U-9, U-11 and U-13 team next year as well.  And how about the start of a girls program?  During the picnic, I will pass out a one page survey that will allow each parent and each player to provide us with feedback regarding PCA – Positive Coaching Alliance.  With Steve, Angel and Bob as head coaches as well as most of our assistant coaches, we all participated in a pre-season training on how to be a Positive Coach.  Your feedback will be necessary for us to determine how we did.  In addition, any positive feedback via a reply email is always welcome and appreciated; however, any constructive feedback is how we will look to change and improve the program for next year.  So with that said, please talk to your son and provide me with your thoughts and comments via email as a reply before June 14th.  I know with the summer soon approaching, they will have a lot of things on their minds other than lacrosse.  I thank you in advance for providing me the feedback.

We'll see everyone on Wednesday afternoon at the Sticklers...
