Congratulations to our Sectional track team that led us to back-to-back titles "08-09". Eight Evanston athletes qualified for State in Charleston. The eight athletes are Tremaine Gordon, Shavon James, Matt Marol, Marlon Stoby, Sean Klamm, Sean Lewis, DeVandrew Johnson, and Antonio Sanders. The State team will represent the Evanston community well.
As our seniors' graduate and move on with their lives, we wish them the absolute best. For the trackmen returning, it is important that they stay active this summer. Cross Country workouts, soccer camps, football camps and summer track meets, Monday and Wednesday during the month of June at 6pm on the Evanston track.
The week of May 25-27, there will be a Cross Country meeting after school at 3:50 pm. Guys listen to the bulletin or see Coach Phillips for more information.
Parents, thank you for all your support, energy, and love. Have a wonderful summer. Freshmen, sophomores, and juniors, let's finish strong academically. Do the BEST you can on your final exams and turn in all your work even if it is late.
Coach Michelin 5/16/2009COACHES CORNER May 16th Back to back CSL Conference Championships.
This one was harder than in 2008, because we were at home in front of our peers. Evanston had six first places, six-second places, five third places, and three fifth places, for a total of 153 pts. Maine South finished second with 126 points, Niles West was third with 97 points. Our sophomores finished second to Maine South.
Evanston had ten all conference performers to lead the division: Evanston was lead by Shavon James 30 pts, DeVandrew Johnson 22 pts, Tremaine Gordon 17 pts, Marlon Stoby 14 1/2 pts, Matt Marol 10 pts, Sean Klamm 10 pts, Sean Lewis 10 pts, Jeff Shelton 10 pts, Josh Perryman 8 pts, and Antonio Sanders 7 pts.
Awards dinner was 2 hours after the conclusion of the CSL track meet. Everyone seemed to have a fun time. Shavon James was our Most Valuable and received the Excellence Award. Matt Marol was awarded the Scholastic Award. Glenn Smith received the Boswell Track Award. Sean Klamm earned the Kevin Richards Award. The four captains received a Certificate for Leadership. Jeff Shelton received a Certificate for Leadership. Every trackman present at the awards ceremony received a very orange and blue CSL Championship long sleeve shirt in rememberance of the 2009 season.
Our track parents have been awesome all season by supporting this team in many different ways. We owe you so much for the love you gave us. Parents, uniform turn in is Monday-Wednesday of this week of Sectionals.
Coach Michelin 5/9/2009COACHES CORNER May 9th The Boys Track Team won the Thornton Invite with a score of 157 points. Thornwood was second, and Thornton was third. The competition helped many of our guys to personal bests. Twenty-six performances on the varsity level met or exceeded expectations. In less then seven days, we host a very competitive CSL Championship meet. Our effort today is something to build on for the CSL meet.
CSL week is upon us. On Tuesday, May 12 at 4:30 pm, our freshmen are at Glenbrook South. Dismissal will be at 2 pm. On Friday, May 15, at 2 pm, the varsity and sophomore levels will be at home. We are defending champs.
Parents, this will be the last week for many of our athletes. Uniforms will be turned in Saturday at noon during Sectional practice.
Awards dinner is Saturday, May 16, at 5 pm in Bacon cafeteria. Please park in the back parking lot. Coaches will take care of the ribs and chicken. I would appreciate it if the parents could take care of salads, pop, water, gatorade and dessert. Thank you. Coach Michelin 5/2/2009COACHES CORNER May 2nd The 2009 Boys Track Season is quickly coming to a conclusion. The month of May is the championship season. Next week at Thornton, we will be very competitive as a team on each level. In a mere thirteen days, we will host the Central Suburban League South Meet on Friday, May 15th at 2pm. The Frosh will travel to Glenbrook South on Tuesday, May 12th for their league championship meet with a 4:30 pm start.
I am pleased with how the team perdormed at Glenbard West. We utilized many team members in our final tune up. The field events carried the team. Many of the track performers did not run in their events. Shavon James won the triple jump with a jump of 44' 5". DeVandrew Johnson won the long jump in 21' 7". The 4X100 relay was 2nd, 4X200 was 3rd, and the 4X400 relay was 2nd. Jeff Shelton tossed the shot at 48' 5". Ray Gibson 20' 7" in the long jump. On the Sophomore level, Rivera-Thompson won the high hurdles, intermediate hurdles and the 1600 relay. Marlon Stoby won the 400, 2nd in the 200 and 1st in the 1600 relay.
Pending: Awards dinner will be Saturday May 16th at 5pm, Bacon Cafeteria. Coaches will provide Ribs and chicken. We need families to provide water, Gatorade, side dishes and desserts.
Swine Flu-We must continue to stay healthy. Remind your students to wash their hands often during the day, cover a cough, drink lots of liquids to stay hydrated and get plenty of rest.
Coach Michelin 4/24/2009COACHES CORNER Apr 24th Our first few outdoor meets in April have been cold, wet and dark. The runners have been performing well in their training flats against teams wearing spikes. We are at a positive disadvantage in April for May.
Our weights Coach, George Woolridge is recovering well from brain surgery. He could be back by the middle of May. Speaking of the middle of May our Conference track meet will be held at home on Friday, May 15th, starting at 2pm. Our end of the season awards night will be Saturday, May 16th at ETHS. More onformation to follow.
On Friday night, April 24th, the Varsity finished third out of twelve teams with 184 points. In the A-B-C meet at Wheaton South. Evanston had big time performances from Tremaine Gordon, first in the 100, 10.7 200, 21.5. Shavon James, first in the long jump 22' 3 3/4". DeVandrew Johnson, first in the long jump, 21' 7 3/4". Antonio Sanders, first in the 100 meter dash 10.80. Sean Klamm, second in the 800, 1:57. All of the times were timed with the F.A.T. timimg system. The next meet will be on Tuesday at home, 4:30 pm start.
On Thursday, April 23, Sean Klamm received an award at Northwestern University for his efforts in helping others through volunteerism. On Sunday, April 26, Glenn Smith will be honored as a Warren Cherry Scholarship recipient. Our track team is fortunate to have such great leadership.
Coach Michelin 3/29/2009COACHES CORNER Mar 29th The indoor season was a huge success. The team won the eight-team Thornton Invite, twelve-team Dan Phillips Relays, sophomore level of the twelve-team Kevin Richards and of course the six-team Conference (CSL) meet. Your student athletes set many personal records.
The Appreciation Dinner held for the team and funded by our concessions, was a fun time for all. It was well attended by over 95% of the team. There was plenty of food and every participant went home full for the moment. Congratulations to the event coaches for their expertise and dedication and to their athletes who are winners that work had.
Thank you to our parents who come out and support their children and the team. We are all blessed to be part of this wonderful experience in 2009.
We moved our efforts to outdoors and the granddaddy of spring sports, outdoor track. It will be cold and wet some days, but we must push on in our development to be complete in May. 3/21/2009COACHES CORNER Mar 21st Repeat! Repeat! The boy's track team has back-to-back indoor CSL Championships. Twenty -seven student athletes met or exceeded expectations. The varsity scored 162 points, Niles West 92, New Trier 72, Maine South 71, Glenbrook South 60 and Waukegan 26. The freshmen and sophomore scored 116, to secure the win.
On Thursday, March 26, at 6:15 pm, the coaches will be hosting a team appreciation dinner in Bacon Cafeteria, (track boys athletes only). Congratulations CSL Indorr Champs! On Saturday, March 28, the boys will trvel to Bolingbrook (Lewis University) for the last indoor meet. We will leave Evanston by bus at 1:30 pm and return to Evanston after 11:00 pm.
Outdoor practice begins on Monday, March 23, at 3:50 pm. The 3rd academic quarter ends on April 3. The track team will hold practice during spring break from 10 am to 12:30 pm.

Thank you. 3/14/2009COACHES CORNER Mar 14th What a tremendous weekend for the boy's track team. The varsitwon the Dan Phillips Relays on Friday night, March 13, 2009, with a team score and total team effort of 70 points followed by Thornton, 40 points and a tie for third between Morgan Park and Loyola each with 29 points. On Saturday morning, March 14, 2009, at the Kevin Richards Invitational, the Sophomores dominated the field scoring 54 points followed by Maine South in second with 37 points and Brother Rice in third with 24 points. Our freshmen, small in number big in heart, finished third with 22.5 points. New Trier scored 51.5 points to win. OUR SENIOR CAPTAINS LED THE WAY.
As the track coach, I am very proud of the effort our guys displayed in the orange and blue. In the three meets Evanston had 10 first places, 6 second palces, 7 third places. The championship pace continues next week for the CSL Championship: On Tuesday March 17, the freshmen boys will travel to Main South at 2:30 pm with a 4:30 pm start. On Friday, March 20, 2009, the varsity and freshmen/sophomore will host the CSL at home starting at 5:30 pm.
Picture day is Monday, March 16, 2009 at 6 pm.
Our concession parents displayed the same orange and blue effort as our athletes. After expenses, this weekend we made a profit of 1700.00. Thank you for the love and support.
Coach Michelin 3/7/2009COACHES CORNER Mar 7th The boy's track team was glad to be on their home track with 30 athletes, which either met or exceeded expectations. Many sophomores were up on the varsity performing like veterans trying to earn a spot for this Friday night, Dan Phillips Relays and the following Friday night CSL Invite. The underclassman on the varsity were: Marlon Stoby, 52.4 in the 440, Andres Rivera-Thompson, 8.0 in the high hurdles, 7.8 in the low hurdles, and Scott Klamm, 2:06 in the 880 yard run. What a fun meet to be a part of watching athletes perform like Sean Klamm, Glenn Smith, DeVandrew Johnson, Tremaine Gordon, Matt Marol, Antonio Sanders, Alex and Felix Kombwa, Jeff Shelton, Alex Finnegan, Curtis Wideman, Ray Gibson, Victor Bordo, Noah Korman, Damiel Cox and many others.
This past Thursday at 4pm, English teacher Mrs. Jenkins came and spoke to the team about how they could become more successful as students in their classes. Mrs. Jenkins stressed 3 points; 1. Be an active participant everyday. 2. Take good notes eveyday. 3. Study your notes and material from your daily classes eveyday. As a retired principal, I really appreciated Mrs. Jenkins sharing, but I was also so proud of the track team for the way they soaked up the information they received.

We split the away meets; won at Thornton and lost to Thornwood at Thornwood.
As we look forward to championship March and put on our track spikes, we will go back and capture our tradition. Championship March begins on Friday night, March 13 with the Evanston Relays, followed by the Frosh division and March 20, we will host the CSL Championships and on Saturday, March 28, Fast Times meet in Bolingbrook and Illinois Top Times in Bloomington.
Our last indoor quad will be a tune up for the Dan Phillips this Saturday, March 7, 10:45 am at home. During the beginning of practice last week, we took the time to place emphasis on time management. Several students spoke to their teammates about the strategies they utilize to be able to include school, athletics, family, and social life in 24 hours, 7 days a week. On Tuesday at 4 pm, Mrs. Jenkins, an English teacher at ETHS will speak to the team on what strategies they can follow to be more effective in their classrooms.  |
