SCOTTSDALE – Their regular season ended April 22 in a 3-2 frustrating loss at Notre Dame; but Monday evening, May 14, at Bill & Vickie Ferguson’s (parents of sophomore pitcher Kilee) north Scottsdale home, Head Coach Danica Gianni’s Lady Falcons had plenty of reasons to celebrate their ’07 season. First, ten of the Lady Birds received Wells Fargo No. 2 Region honors — of whom only two are seniors.
1st Team: Co-Captain and shortstop, senior Breann Ferradino. Pitcher, senior Nikki Horton. Freshman, Lauren Clepper, second baseman.
2nd Team: Third baseman, freshman Maria Carranza.
Leftfielder, sophomore Carey Riner. First baseman, sophomore Tia Jorde. Pitcher, sophomore Kilee Ferguson.
Honorable Mention: Catcher, freshman Kim Ward.
Centerfielder, sophomore Alli Bernard. First baseman, sophomore Amanda Poincelot.
After good eats and a whoops-an’-shrieks-of-delight team video, Coach Gianni presented the following Team Awards: Most Valuable Player \- Ferradino. Ultimate Team Player \- Co-Captain Lindsay Lagreid; Rookie of the Year (Offense) \- freshman Lauren Clepper Rookie of the Year (Defense) – Carranza; Most Improved – sophomore Carey Riner; Four Varsity Seasons - Horton.
In addition to holding down the “hot corner,” Carranza, with a “home run” 4.3 GPA, was named the team’s Scholar Athlete.
Congratulations, Ladies! And for 2008, here come Gracie Goulder and the Middle School “cavalry” graduates!
