Rest in Peace, Maverick Winty Singh - 6/30/2006 On Tuesday, June 27, 2006, Foothill Flyers Alternate Captain Bryan "Maverick" Klein suddenly and tragically passed away . He was 39 years old.
Bryan played with the team for over a year, joining the Flyers during the inaugural season in the summer of 2005. He was also the Captain for the Wizards in Skatetown Roseville's Silver League. On the ice, he was competitive, gritty, and abrasive. Off the ice, he was everyone's friend - whether opponent or teammate.
As an ex-marine, Bryan was a natural leader for the Flyers. As a fan and a player, he had a pure love for the game of hockey. Perhaps the sport was an escape for him. Many of his friends and teammates remember how he never spoke of his burdens, but instead was always upbeat and jovial with everyone at the rink.
The Flyers will remember Bryan's fiery speeches during games, to inspire the team to not give up. He was one of the team's biggest cheerleaders. His last hockey game was with the Flyers on Sunday, June 25, 2006. He scored two goals and racked up eight penalty minutes. That day, Bryan was in as good a mood as he'd ever been, with a big smile on his face and laughing and joking with his teammates. For most of us, this was the last we saw of Bryan, and perhaps, it's the most fitting memory we should have.
The Foothill Flyers extend their most heartfelt condolences to Bryan's children and family. In tribute to Bryan, the team has dedicated the Summer 2006 season in his memory. Bryan left an indelible print on the Foothill Flyers, and he will not be forgotten.
Rest in Peace, Maverick. |
