GIANT 3000 lb. ICE CAKE with 35 Candles
A very successful 35th Border Bruins celebration with two Alumni teams playing a fast-paced, end-end entertaining hockey game was held in Jan. 2005.  A huge "ice cake" was constructed and created which held 35 candles.  Team captains from over the past 35 years lit the candles. Also, there was a large cake which raised over $400.00 in donations, allowing  funds to begin the avenue of forming an Association.

On July 5th, 2005 we were officially "incorporated" as a society know as the Grand Forks Border Bruins Alumni Association. Since that date the Alumni has hosted two 4 team tournaments and one exhibition game (Mentor game) a total of 17 games.

The Alumni first tournament (Tournament of Tournaments) was held on January 27th, 28th & 29th 2006. Four teams were formed and are known as the Pharmasave White Bears, Source Black Bears, Overwaitea Northern Bears and Kal Tire southern Bears.

The Alumni first exhibition game (Mentor Game) was held on November 26th, 2006. This unique game was combined equally with both Border Bruins & Alumni. The Alumni players had the opportunity to interact with the Bruins in the dressing rooms, players bench and on the ice.

The Alumni second tournament (BIG Tournament) was held on January 26th, 27th & 28th 2007. Again with 4 teams participating. However, we experienced problems with filling the rosters with Alumni players and as result we turned for help to the local recreational hockey teams. The Alumni "affiliated" with 10 local hockey players. Also, we added a new annual feature to the tournaments....honoring the Bruins who made a professional career in the NHL (and WHL) This year "Ron Areshenkoff" was our guest Alumni member.
