Six Dodgers Named NYCBL All-Stars 8/24/2009Six members of the Hornell Dodgers have been named to the NYCBL postseason all-star team following the teams 34-14 season. Trey Bennett (Mercyhurst), Jeff Lockwood (U of Tennessee), Johnathan Keppler (Mercyhurst), Chase Boruff (Carson Newman), and Jordan Backes (Quincy) were 1st team selections while Erik Lambe (LeMoyne) was named 2nd team.
Bennett appeared in all 48 games for the Dodgers this summer. He hit .341 (57 for 167) with 12 doubles, two triples, and eight homers. He drove in 42 runs, scored 42 runs, and drew 43 walks. He also stole nine bases in 12 attempts.
Lockwood led the team with a .391 batting average (43 for 110) in the 28 games he appeared in. He collected 12 doubles, a triple, and four homeruns. He drove in 34 runs, scored 27 runs, and stole nine bases in ten attempts. He also tossed 17.1 innings and registered a 2-1 record (one save). He struck out 28 while walking seven.
Keppler set the table for the Dodgers as the team's leadoff hitter. He hit .311 (41 for 132) and had a .508 on-base percentage (48 walks). He connected on five doubles, drove in 23, and scored 42 runs.
Boruff didn't allow an earned run in his 18 innings (16 appearances) out of the Dodger bullpen. He allowed just eleven hits (opponents had a .159 batting average against him). Boruff finished the year 1-0 with nine saves. He walked five and struck out 28.
Backes finished the campaign with a 6-2 mark in 61 innings of work. He made nine starts and allowed just 33 hits. He walked 38 and struck out 69 batters while holding opponents to just a .158 batting average.
Lambe was also 6-2 on the season for the Dodgers in 57.1 innings of work. He made nine starts and allowed 43 hits. He walked 19 and struck out 44 batters while holding opponents to a .201 batting average.
The Dodgers won the 2009 Western Division Championship and advanced to the NYCBL finals. Hornell was 19-5 at Maple City Park this summer.  |
