Dodgers end Regular Season with 32nd Win Paul Welker - 7/30/2008The Hornell Dodgers earned their 8th straight and 32nd victory of the season as they capped the 2008 regular season with a 6-5 win over the Webster Yankees.
Webster got on the board in the 1st inning but the Dodgers batted around in the 2nd and scored five runs. Brett Lancaster (SIU-Edwardsville) singled home two, Jose Sanchez (Delaware State) doubled home two, and Greg Laughlin (SW Minnesota State) singled home a run in the inning.
Webster cut the lead to 5-2 in the 3rd but Adam Eggemeyer (SIU-Edwardsville) made it a four-run game with an RBI single in the 4th inning.
The Yankees cut the lead to 6-5 with a three run 7th inning keyed by a RBI double by Shawn Bailey and a homer by Luke Wallace.
JC Casey (Missouri State) got the Dodgers out of the jam in the 7th and pitched a scoreless 8th before Josh Goodin (William Woods) retired the Yankees in order in the 9th to pick up his 11th save.
Curtis Smith (SW Minnesota State) earned the win to improve to 4-1 on the season. He tossed six innings and allowed seven hits and two earned runs. He walked two and struck out three.
Trey Bennett (Mercyhurst) was 2 for 3 while Sanchez was 2 for 4 with 2 RBI to pace the Dodger offense. Steve Muoio collected three hits for the Yankees.
The Dodgers have a day off to prepare for the Western Division Semifinals. They will host either Geneva or Allegany County on Friday. The Dodgers opponent will be determined after play on Thursday. First pitch of the 1st game of the series will be at 7 p.m. at Maple City Park.  |
