Missed opportunity leaves Panthers with split against Dodgers 6/15/2009The Kitchener Panthers got one win at Jack Couch Park yesterday.
That's a bummer.
"Should have been two," said Panthers manager Brian Bishop after his club beat the Oshawa Dodgers 6-1 to split an Intercounty Baseball League doubleheader.
"Walks and errors hurt us in the first game."
The Panthers were one out from taking the opener too.
But second baseman Mike Andrulis botched a routine grounder, allowing the Dodgers to tie the score 5-5 and force an extra inning.
Oshawa won 7-5 on run-scoring singles by Kofi Osei-aning and James Kottaras.
"Andrulis makes that play 99 out of 100 times," Bishop said.
"This time he missed it. What can you do?"
The Panthers have seven wins and eight losses. But they should be 8-7. They robbed themselves yesterday.
Meanwhile, in recent weeks, the club has been repeatedly burglarized at Couch.
Thieves made off with four dozen baseballs, pop, chips and candy.
Even walkie-talkies used by Aud Complex staff were snatched.
At least the Panthers slugged with frequency yesterday.
The Panthers got two-run homers from Jeff Pietraszko, Chris Novia and Mat Taube yesterday. Marcus Knecht hit a two-run homer for Oshawa (8-9) in the opener.
Scott Harris took the loss for Kitchener in the first game. Evan Grills got the win.Lefty Ben Ehgoetz earned the win in the second game, tossing a complete seven-inning seven-hitter. Fifty-four of his 108 pitches were strikes.
Adam Garner took the loss for Oshawa.
The Panthers host the last-place Hamilton Thunderbirds on Thursday.
Kitchener won 6-5 in Hamilton on Friday.
