The cross country team has made great progress this year.  After missing a number of days due to excessive heat, we had forty students turn out interested in participating.  Our roster for most of the season had 28 runners and two coaches.
On most days, we have run anywhere from three to six miles, mostly down Evans to Locks, often on over through the Jones Creek loop, sometimes down Fury's Ferry to Zaxby's and back, and occasionally on down towards the Savannah River Rapids Pavilion and back.   On our tough interval days we run the Carson loop, sometimes as many as five double-loops.
On weekends, we have occasionally run the Greeneway in North Augusta or the Canal.
Our most recent victory was first-place trophies at the Jones County Invitational Meet on October 29, near Gray, Georgia.  Six of our students won individual medals at that meet.
The Region Meet takes place on November 4 at Greenbrier at 1:00.  We expect both teams to do well and to move on to the State meet on November 11.  This takes place in Carrolton, Georgia at 2:30.
We got new uniforms this year and new tee-shirts, and enjoyed quite a bit of parent support.  What started out looking mostly as a building year is ending with first-place not only at Jones County, but also at the Greenbrier meet on October 12. In fact, the girls won first-place at the October 12 meet, and the boys got second place.  We are very hopeful that our runners will keep in great shape by running track next semester and run on their own until next August.  We're also hopeful to get more LHS students and supporters to attend our cross country meets.
