Lakeside Diving

What is the most important characteristic a diver needs to become successful? “The Want To”. A diver with the “the want to” mostly wants to use the board at the pool and they are always trying new dives and / or perfecting old ones. They often think about diving at night before they fall asleep. These students have” the diving want to”. I believe it’s a gift. Beyond that, one needs to be healthy and have a general sense of where he or she is in the air during a spin (up or upside down) or twist (facing the board or away from the board). The successful diver needs to be motivated and persevering. Some new dives can be harder than others and will take time to perfect. Of course, a great toe point is important and is the last thing the judges will see. Strong legs and the ability to remain balanced while being able to get as much height as possible is impressive. Only consistent and correct practice will produce dives that end in the 11 – 1 o’clock V. All of the above results in a solid dive with a vertical entry. The icing on the cake is when the diver has leaned to “punch” or “rip” the entry. A dedicated diver is also a hero to all the kids around the pool. A mature diver understands this responsibility as well and conducts themselves with respect and kindness.
