Mammoths Well Represented at SSWBL All-Star Game
Elliott - 9/8/2009
JOLIET, IL -- The Midwest Mammoths were well-represented in the 2009 SSWBL All-Star Game. Ken Elliott, Corey Hooker, Dave Farkasch, and Bill Zee all made the trip to Silver Cross Field in Joliet, IL. In a game in which the Maple League scored in each of the first three innings en route to a 6-4 win, all four Mammoths reached base. Ken Elliott, who started the game at second and batted seventh, reached on an error by the shortstop, stole two bases (including a steal of home), and scored the second run of the game. Dave Farkasch - a homerun derby finalist - played left field and scored after singling in the fourth. Corey Hooker, playing second and short, went 0-1 with a walk and Bill Zee, also playing left field, reached on a RBI-fielder's choice to make the game 6-3. After jumping out to a 3-0 lead, the Maple League never looked back. With the score 6-3, Maple played behind good defense and three different Pirate pitchers to hold the lead out of the bullpen. For the players, it seemed to be a unique and gratifying experience. The fans, too, were treated to a well-played game by both teams as everyone looks forward to next year.
