10/11/2008JV beats Skaneateles 29-6

Marcellus traveled to Skaneateles to play their arch rivals, the Lakers.  It was a great day, with warm sun, blue sky, and a 29 to 6 victory for the Mustangs.  The Mustangs first score was on a pass from Tross to Huss for 30 yards.  Hayes ran it in on the extra point try for 2 and the score was 8-0 Marcellus.  That’s the way the 1st half ended.  The Mustangs scored on their first three possessions of the second half.  The first score was a pass from Tross to Hayes for 17 yds, PAT good by Ragovin.  The second and third were on runs, 25 yds for Mielnicki and 6 yds for Ragovin.  The Mustangs tried for two on both PAT’s and one was good and one was not.  The Mustang defense was great as it held the Lakers offense scoreless. Skaneateles did manage to score on an interception and a return for a TD.  The game ended Marcellus 29 Skaneateles 6.

Marcellus vs. VVS

The Mustangs suffered their second straight loss Friday night at home at the hands of VVS.  The Red Devils outscored the Mustangs 25 to 8.  The first half was pretty evenly played as both teams moved up and down the field, ending with VVS ahead 7 to 0.  Allie Ragovin was injured, and left the game on a 14yd pass play that took Marcellus to the VVS 11yd line.  Marcellus failed to score as VVS came intercepted and ran the ball back to the Mustangs 25yd line.  VVS fumbled the ball on the very next play and Chris Martin recovered for Marcellus.  In second half the Red Devils scored on three successive drives, VVS 25 Marcellus 0.  The Mustangs score came on a drive that started on their own 30yd line.  A hook and ladder play, Tross to Hayes to Huss went for 17yds, then Tross threw to Huss for 33yds down to the VVS 4yd line; then another Tross pass to Hayes scored the TD.  The Mustangs went for 2 on the extra point and converted.  VVS 25 Marcellus 8.  Rushing: Mielnicki 12-24, Hayes 4-9, Huss 1-17, Linder 1-11, and Masterpole 1-4.  Receiving: Mielnicki 3-7, Huss 2-41, Linder 3-39, Hayes 4-16 1TD, Ragovin 1-14.  Tackles: Mielnicki 7, Felicia 6, Linder & Masterpole 4 each, Breuer, Wilkinson, and Geoff Crysler with 3 each.  Tross and Hayes combined, went 13 for 32 passing with 120yds, 1 TD, and 3 int.  The next game is Saturday against Phoenix at home.

The Mustangs traveled to Holland Patent for their season opener on Saturday 9/6/08.  The Golden Knights proved too much for the Mustangs as they prevailed by the score of 26 to 14.  Marcellus fell behind early as HP took their opening drive 39 yards and scored on an 18 yd pass to go ahead 6 to 0.  A fumble on the ensuing kickoff, put the ball right back in the hands of the Golden Knights.  Marcellus held and the game settled in.  Two possessions later the Mustangs took the ball 86 yards and scored their first TD of the season on a nifty 16 yard run by Mielnicki.  The PAT was good by Ragovin and Marcellus led 7 to 6.  HP scored once more before the half and led 12 to 7.  It was back and forth in the second half and HP scored first to go up 20 to 7 as they converted for 2 on the PAT.  The Mustangs answered back in three plays culminating with a great 40 yard dash by Ames for the TD.  PAT was good by Ragovin, score 20 to 14.  Unfortunately HP answered right back to make the score 26 to 14.  The game ended, with no further scoring, after a couple of  more possessions for each team.  Rushing: Mielnicki 9-89, Ames 4-52, Hayes 10-49, Ragovin  6-18.  Tackles: Ragovin 10, Hastings 9, Mielnicki 5, and Felicia and Huss with 4 each. 10/22/2007JV vs VVS

By Tim Perez
A costly loss versus VVS Thursday night on the home turf-38-19. What an exciting game this was turning out to be. We opened the game with a patented Coach Gilbert onsides kick, executed perfectly by Allie Ragovin, which was recovered by Nick Huss at the 50. We wasted no time scoring on key runs by Dan Rudy & Mike Quercia & key passes from Rudy to Quercia & Raven. Raven’s reception was pitched to Ragovin who recovered his own fumble and ran it in from 5 yards–PAT kick failed–6-0. VVS answered quickly with a big kickoff return & scored 3 plays later–PAT kick failed–6-6. We answered right back on 4 straight completions from Rudy to Quercia, Raven & Amidon & scored on a QB sneak from Rudy from 1yd out & Ragovin converted the PAT kick–13-6. VVS answered quickly again 3 plays later on a big pass play & the PAT kick failed again–13-12. We stopped ourselves on the next drive on bad pitch to Quercia that was fumbled & Rudy ended up quick kicking on 3rd & 24 from our own 11 to the 37. VVS scored 2 played later on 2 big runs & failed on the PAT 2pt try–13-18. Quercia answered right back with an 84yd kickoff return with great blocking up the middle & he turned on his afterburners once he got to the outside–PAT kick failed on bad snap–19-18. Our opening drive of the 2nd ¼ turned it over on downs at our own 23 & they scored 3 plays later & ran in the 2pt PAT–19-26. We had a great drive going & Rudy ended up with a fractured arm & the defense stepped it up and the half ended. The second half was all VVS highlighted by some great playing by backup QB Mike Tross, who answered the pressure really well and a fumble recovery by Sam Schneider. Key stats: Rudy-8-11 passing for 112yds & 6-38 rushing & a TD (This was in less than 2 ¼’s!!!), Quercia-14-30 rushing, 3-60 receiving, an 84yd kickoff return for a TD & 8 tackles, Ragovin-6-51 rushing & a TD, Raven-5-36 receiving, John Drapakowski-7 tackles, Schneider-5 tackles & a recovered fumble, Ken Kimpel-5 tackles & Huss-recovered opening onsides kick.
