Facing an experienced and well balanced team the Montreal Matrix fell to the Maryland Nighthawks by the score of 145-114 in the 2nd round of the ABA Playoffs. The Nighthawks were led by Randy "White Chocolate"Gill with 28 points. Leading the way for the Matrix was Manix Auriantal with 21 points and 6 assists. The loss ended the inaugural season for the Montreal Matrix.
Montreal Matrix a first year team in the ABA and the only Canadian squad is constantly proving every day how serious they are about the game called basketball. All year we have experienced ups and downs but we have remained focus on why we are here, to play the game.Now just entering the playoffs after having a convincing victory against the Ohio Aviators,140 to 83 the Matrix have shown their fans, opponents and themslves that they are absolutely ready to proceed in the second round of the playoffs vs their season rivals the Maryland Nighthawks lead by former NBA player Lawrence Molten. The game will be held on Friday March.17th at 7:00pm in Rockville,Md.

Matrix Abolish Aviators Friday,March 10 2006 The Montreal Matrix abolished the Ohio Aviators in today's game with a final score of 104-83. The Matrix were hot from the beginning of the game and the whole team played hard until the end.Matrix guard Micheal Hadley who scored the teams most points with 23,explained that "It was a great play-off game for the Matrix. The team is set to play one of the top eight teams next week in hopefully what be another victory to take us to the final play-off games in Rochester at the end of the month.
Depleted matrix squad lose to Rochester as Browne scores 39 Montreal, February 26, 2006 – With only six healthy players, the Montreal Matrix lost on the road to the Rochester Razorsharks 127-93. Montreal's Shawne Browne scored 39, and J.J. Brade scored 27, but Montreal's six non-injured players were unable to compete at their best against Rochester, the Connie Hawkins division leaders. The Rochester game came just one day after Montreal was forced to cancel its game in Harlem due to a lack of healthy players. Montreal, now third in the Roger Brown division, owns a 14-14 record. The Matrix look to rebound Friday, March 3 at 7 p.m. when they play the Maryland Nighthawks. The Matrix then close out the regular season Sunday march 5 at 2 p.m. against Tim Hardaway and the Florida Pitbulls. Browne scores 27 as Matrix win fifth straight Montreal, February 19, 2006 – The Montreal Matrix defeated the Baltimore Pearls for the second time this weekend, winning by a score of 112-100. Led by Shawn Browne’s 27 points and 12 rebounds, the Matrix led throughout the 2nd half. Manix Auriantal added 26 points and 9 rebounds. It was a fifth consecutive win for Nevio Marzinotto’s squad. "We’re on a roll," said Matrix centre Pascal Fleury. "This is good for Montreal." Montreal, now second in the Roger Brown Division, owns a 14-12 record. The Matrix will play their next game at the Pierre-Charbonneau Centre next Friday at 7 p.m., hosting the Rochester Razorsharks. .Matrix win fourth straight Montreal, February 17, 2006 – The Montreal Matrix breezed past the Baltimore Pearls at the Pierre-Charbonneau Centre, winning by ascore of 109-96. It was the team's fourth consecutive win. Bobby Miller and Manix Auriantal led the way for the Matrix, scoring 31 and 28 points respectively. With the win, Montreal owns a 13-12 record, moving over the .500 mark for the first since November. The Matrix are 8-3 since the turn of the New Year. The Montreal Matrix will play again this Sunday at 2 p.m. in rematch against the Baltimore Pearls at the Pierre-Charbonneau Centre...Pascal Fleury in a Matrix uniform this weekend Montreal, February 14, 2006 – Former Harlem Globetrotter Pascal Fleury will be the "13th-Man Celebrity Player" for the Montreal Matrix this weekend. The "13th-Man Celebrity Player" rule of the American Basketball Association makes it possible for teams to insert a sport or entertainment personality in their lineup. Fleury, seven-foot-three, will be in uniform for the Matrix this weekend as the team plays the Baltimore Pearls at the Pierre-Charbonneau Centre. The games are scheduled for Friday at 7 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. While the 13th-Man rule does not guarantee participation in the game, Fleury will take part in the pre-game shootaround and be ready to play if head coach Nevio Marzinotto calls upon his services. "I think I can help the team," said the centre, thrilled to see a professional team in Montreal with so many local talents. Pascal Fleury, who comes from Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu, played for the Georgetown University Hoyas before playing for various professional teams in Bolivia, Colombia, France, Lebanon and Taiwan. .Matrix derail Newark Express Montreal, February 5, 2006 – The Montreal Matrix easily defeated the Newark Express 144-102 at the Pierre-Charbonneau Centre. Matrix guard Bobby Miller set the tone for the game scoring 24 first-half points, sending the Matrix to the locker room up by 25 at the half. The second half also belonged to the Matrix. Matrix guard Manix Auriantal who had 6 first half buckets finished the game with 34 points,11 rebounds and 10 assists. Shawn Brown was the leading scorer, chipping in 35 points of his own to go with his 12 rebounds. The Matrix’s record now stands at 12 wins 12 losses. Auriantal ABA Player of the Week Manix Auriantal, set to represent Montreal at the All-Star game, was named ABA player of the Week. Auriantal, whose lay-up gave the Matrix the victory over Maryland Friday, averaged 30.5 points per game over the last four contests. Walton injured in Long Island For a second consecutive weekend, the Matrix were set to play two home games split by a contest on the road. The team travelled to Long Island Saturday but the game was called off in the first quarter when Matrix forward Dwight Walton suffered a fractured jaw after being punched from behind by a Long Island player. Walton will likely be out for the rest of the season. With the ABA All-Star activities scheduled February 10 to 12 in Florida, the Matrix will play their next game February 17 at the Pierre-Charbonneau Centre, at 7 p.m. against the Baltimore Pearls.
Matrix come from behind to win in thriller game Montreal, February 3, 2006 – With 0.9 seconds left in the game, the Montreal Matrix edged out the Maryland Nighthawks 116-115 on a Manix Auriantal lay-up. Coming in strong with a record of 18-5, the Nighthawks were tough competitors. Trailing throughout the first three quarters, the Matrix got itright in the end. A three-pointer from Sani Ibrahim tied the game and with only 10 seconds left, Auriantal drove the length of the court to hit the game winning lay-up. “I just concentrated on making sure the ball would go in by putting it on the board,” said the Matrix guard. The Matrix’s record now stands at 11-12. Levros back in Montreal Louis-Patrick Levros, who started the season with the Matrix, joined the team Tuesday after a two-month stay with the Buffalo Rapids. He attended the Community College of Rhode Island from 2002 to 2004 before turning pro this season. The 21-year-old forward was born in St-Léonard and grew up in Laval. Another busy weekend ahead The Matrix, playing three games in as many days for a second consecutive weekend, will travel to Long Island tomorrow before coming home to the Pierre-Charbonneau Centre, Sunday, at 2 p.m. to face the Newark Express. Auriantal powers Matrix to road win over Buffalo Montreal, February 1, 2006 – The Montreal Matrix defeated the Rapidsin Buffalo 132-127 behind Auriantal’s team-high and season-high 40-point performance. The Matrix guard also chipped in 12 assists. The Matrix now improve to a 10-12 overall record. Randall to the ABA All-Star Weekend Matrix forward Quilninious “Q” Randall will take part in the Slam-Dunk Competition during the ABA All-Star Weekend, February 10 to 12 in Sunrise, Florida. He will be accompanying teammate Manix Auriantal, selected to the ABA All-Star game. Stevens on board as assistant coach The Montreal Matrix named Paul Stevens as assistant coach. At only 27 years old, Stevens is one of the youngest coach at the elite level in Quebec. Since 2003 he serves as head coach of the Laval Espoirs and is vice-president of Basketball Laval. The team hosts the Maryland NightHawks Friday at 7 p.m. at the Pierre-Charbonneau Centre before traveling to Long Island Saturday. The Matrix will be back in Montreal Sunday to face the Newark Express. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m. Boston burns Matrix Montreal, January 29, 2006 – The Montreal Matrix, playing their third game in as many days, lost to the Boston Frenzy by a score of 102-93. Down by six at the half, the Matrix battled back but just could not pull ahead of Boston. “We just didn’t play as a team today, fatigue just wasn’t an excuse,” explained Matrix guard Bobby Miller. Manix Auriantal had another strong game for the Matrix, recording 30 points and going 7-for-11 from the arc. The Matrix record now stands at 9-12. The team will play in Buffalo against the Rapids next Wednesday February 1. The team will return to the Pierre-Charbonneau Centre the following Friday, February 3 at 7 p.m. to play the Maryland Nighthawks. Matrix fall to Long Island Montreal, January 28, 2006 – The Strong Island Sound defeated the Montreal Matrix in Long Island by a score of 86-96. Matrix guard Manix Auriantal tallied 25 points while his teammate Jonas Pierre registered 24 points and 12 rebounds. The Matrix, winners of 5 of their last 7 games, own a 9-11 record. The Matrix will play tomorrow a third game in as many days, facing the Boston Frenzy at the Pierre-Charbonneau Centre. The game is scheduled for 2 p.m.
Matrix stop the Boston Frenzy Montreal, January 27, 2006 – The Montreal Matrix blew away the Boston Frenzy 115-80 at the Pierre-Charbonneau Centre. Montreal took an early lead, going up by 27 points at the end of the first half. They never looked back and finished with their second highest point total for the season. Guards Bobby Miller and Denburk Reid led the way for the Matrix. Miller finished with 29 points while Reid dished out 8 assists. Auriantal named to ABA All-Star Game Montreal Matrix guard Manix Auriantal was named today to the ABA All-Star game, scheduled for February 12 in Florida. “It feels great,” saysAuriantal. “I’m just trying to do my best to represent Montreal.” Auriantalis the first Canadian to hold the honour. Still 3rd in the Roger Brown Division standings, the Matrix record now stands at 9 wins 10 losses. Montreal has won five of its last six games. Philippe Langlois, injured during Thursday’s practice, did not participate in tonight’s contest and will be out of action for the next two to three weeks with a broken collarbone.
Busy weekend for the Matrix The Matrix, playing three games in as many days over the weekend, are going to be in Long Island tomorrow before coming home to the Pierre-Charbonneau Centre, Sunday, January 29 at 2 p.m. to face Boston once again.
