Myers Park Finishes Second in NC
6/2/2009
On a sunny, Saturday afternoon, Myers Park and East Meck met up at the Charlotte Rugby Club for the right to call themselves State Champions.  The two clubs had met during the regular season, with Myers Park taking home a two-point victory.  The intensity was felt on both sides at kickoff and the first part of the game saw the two teams battle in the middle 50% of the field with no advantage being established.  The momentum would eventually be captured by Myers Park and took a 10-0 lead in the first half.  However, East Meck would fight back to score a try of their own, and the score would be in favor of the Mustangs 10-5, going into halftime.

Myers Park felt good about their play, but the injury bug would pop up a few more times through the half.  The injuries, in addition to the determined play of East Meck put the Mustangs on their heels - eventually conceding a try and conversion.  Now, down two points, Myers Park pushed will all the energy they had left in the tank, but unfortunately, East Meck conducted a goal-line stand to keep the Mustangs out of the try zone.  The game ended with East Meck taking a 12-10 victory and the North Carolina High School State Championship.

Depsite the loss in the Championship game, Myers Park can hold their head high with the hard work and great experiences had during this school year.  The season may have come to an end, but the coaches couldn't be more proud of the work put forth this year.
