History of the Northwest Lacrosse Club:
The Northwest Warriors is a Houston based Men’s Lacrosse club. We play in the Gulf Coast Lacrosse Association.
(GCLA- http://members.tripod.com/~gcla/index.html )
The Northwest Lacrosse Club was formed in the summer of 2002 as a spin off of the Metro Lacrosse Club by former Metro Goalie Nelson Acosta. After winning the 2002 GCLA title virtually unmatched by any opposition, the former Metro Star, set off on his own to balance out the level of play in the league. The idea was to create one great club that sported competitive lacrosse players in the Northwest region of Houston.
The NW team's mission was very simple: Field a competitive team that adheres to basic principals: “Power, Integrity, and Respect”.
In their first attempt at season play, the Warriors did not fare very well. However, their performance off the field, in the lacrosse social scene, was legendary. They made many friends, as well as contacts through out the lacrosse community. The basic philosophy of NW LAX was born – Make great friends, Visit Great Places and Have Fun!! The team name was instantly popular for its uniqueness and originality.
The following year, because of the clubs reputation, getting players involved with the Warriors was a bit easier. Northwest managed to become a recognizable force in the GCLA. Another chapter in the NW story was born – play great lacrosse!!
Current and former Warriors include some of the leagues elite, including one of the league’s top scorers, as well as former Assist and Save leaders. Although Northwest’s roster includes many all-stars from all levels of lacrosse, the club also includes players of all ability levels who are looking to have a good time playing “social lacrosse.” We want to be successful on the field, but not at the expense of having a good time on & off the field.
A new chapter in the NW legacy has just been written. The Warriors captured their first Western conference and the elusive GCLA title in 2009!! They also proved they are the team of the future by placing third in the Gulf Coast Invitational Tournament losing to only long time league rivals Tony's Tavern and Metro LC.
Now that the team has been around for a number of years, the team now not only has the player depth but administrative foundation it was lacking in prior years. This has allowed us to build a strong lacrosse brand and a franchise with deep roots through many High School and College programs. NW LAX is now one of the most respected and admired clubs in the Southwest Region.
The club’s goals now are to continue growing while striving to be the best club in the Men’s Lacrosse post collegiate arena, while maintaining its original principals on which the club was founded on back in 2002- "Power-Pride-Respect".
