The brainchild of Mike Smith and Mike Ugliarolo, two former high school teammates, The Mud Hens were "born" in 2007. Committed to the ideals of on-field excellence and off-field shenanigans, Smith and Ugliarolo scoured their Facebook friends lists during those cold winter months, looking for colorful personalities and baseball enthusiasts who were still in good enough shape to swing the bat a few times a week. That Spring, the Mud Hens came together for the first time as a team. But after a disappointing inaugural year which saw the Hens win just eight games, Smith and Ugliarolo used the off-season to retool, bringing in a heap of new talent that would prove to be the difference maker. In 2008, The Mud Hens led the RBI's La Miligrosa League with 16 wins, securing a top-seeded playoff spot before injuries derailed the club in the League Championship Series. Now, with their eyes set on the NYCMBL, The Hens look to establish themselves as contenders in a brand new league against brand new teams-- but playing old-time Hens' baseball every step of the way.
