Blues Hold Off Reds In All-Star Game

The All-Stars never seem to disappoint, and the 2009 game was no exception.  Great skating, passing, shooting, and goaltending were all on display as the Blue Stars were able to walk away with a 6-3 win over the Red Stars.  The Blues scored all 6 goals in the first period, led by Danny Christ's 2 goals and assist.  Blues goalie Justin Rutherford was impressive, stopping all 18 Red Star shots in the first period.   (Picture - Blue Stars Jason Meroni deflects the puck over the net as Red Star goalie Kyle Szelestey slides throughthe crease.)

The Red Stars offense came all in the second period, with goalie Justin Frei keeping the Blues off the board.  Before the second period Ryan Cotcamp rallied the team. "Let's step it up" he said as the period started.  Cotcamp would score 2 goals in the period. Justin Smith would get some bragging rights in the second, scoring off Blue goalie (and Storm teammate) Brett Roman.  The Red Stars played a better game in the second, but ran out of time as the buzzer sounded giving the Blue Stars the victory.
