STRONG SKATING BY OAKVILLE SPEEDSKATERS YIELD TERRIFIC RESULTS

Oakville and its’ Speed Skating Club were well represented by 33 Provincially Ranked Skaters in Cambridge, ON, on November 1st and 2nd, 2008, at the first Ontario Cup Meet of the season.  In this challenging competition, the Oakville Club members raced against  top skaters from across the Province.

The Oakville Club was very successful and returned with 9 top medal finishes and an additional 3 top 5 placements.  The Oakville Club took home 25% of the medals available to be won.  Tiago Santos, Joshua Sullivan and Patrick Duffy each earned first place honours.  Both Hal Malcolm and Sean McAnuff received second place medals.  Third place went to Anne Marie Gildea, Blake Sullivan, Katie Quesnelle and Mitchell Kos.  Ian Welsby placed 4th and Christopher Sturino and Manon Garde, 5th.  First place relay winners were Patrick Duffy and Jeremy Lin.

As a result of their achievements at this Ontario Cup, 8 members of the Oakville Club were selected to represent Ontario at the North American Short Track Championship being held in Madison, Wisconsin, in early December.  This is the most number of Oakville skaters ever selected to compete at the North Americans’.  Congratulations to:  Patrick Duffy, Emma Hobson, Sean Stewart, Jeremy Lin, Zachary Lin, Ryan McAnuff, Sean McAnuff and Blake Sullivan.
