HOW TO SIGN UP FOR A MEET:

On the Web Site under Latest News, we will post when forms for a meet are available.  (In order to plan ahead and decide what meets you wish to attend, please view the list of competitions)  The Club will also post on skating dates a poster for members who are interested in attending a meet to sign up.

When a Club hosts a meet they will send out an information sheet about the meet and an application form for the meet.  The information sheet will list where the meet is being held, the date of the meet, the type of meet, the price of the meet, and the time the meet starts, a list of hotels available if needed, and any other pertinent information a person needs to attend the meet.

Each information sheet also lists certain requirements that each Club must follow:  when the coaches meeting takes place, when to hand in application forms, when and who to submit entries to, etc.

Most importantly each information sheet lists an entry deadline date. This deadline date is the date that the club (via e-mail) must submit any member and their information who wishes to compete.  In order for your club to meet this deadline, we post in the Upcoming Races and calendar section of the web-site and on the sign-up poster what day we require forms to be handed in by.  These days are usually your skating day before the due date on the form.

RACING FORMS:

Clubs also send an application form that must be filled out.  In order to assist you in filling out an entry form please click here and read: "How to Complete a Racing Form".

After completing the application form please hand in to the Club Registrar with payment for the meet.

After all Clubs have submitted their members, the hosting Club sets out the groupings and racing format.  When we receive this information we will post it on the Web Site.

COMPETITION CRITERIA AND TIME STANDARDS:

There are two types of competitions:

Ability Meets (Named Regional Series):

These are competitions in which seeding is done primarily on ability.  In ability competitions, skaters of different age classes and sex may be grouped together within the different groupings.  Seed times for entry will be 500m for both Master and Senior groupings and 333m for the Junior Group.

Groupings for Regional Events:

Masters Group - Masters Women and Men - Seed Time 500m

Senior Goup - Senior Women and Men, Intermediate Women and Men, Junior Women and Men and Juvenile Women and Men - Seed Time 500m

Junior Group - Midget Girls and Boys, Bantam Girls and Boys, Peewee Girls and Boys - Seed time 333m
Where skaters compete against racers of their same ability level- time standards do not apply; and

Age Class Meets (Named Ontario Cups):

These competitions are Age Class meets where Seed Time Ranking Applies.  Skaters are seeded on time in their respective age category prior to each Ontario Cup event.

Please See Technical Bulletin #26 in the Downloads Section, for information on the new Seed Times per Age Category and Entry Positions Available per Age Category for the Ontario Short Track Cups.

An updated ranking list can be found at www.speedskatingontario.org

QUALIFICATIONS FOR for 2008-2009 ONTARIO CUPS:

Details of qualifications will be provided late September.

FIRST TIME COMPETITORS:

The Oakville Speed Skating Club encourages all members to attend meets. Competitions rules and regulations are set out by the Ontario Speed Skating Association and the Canadian Amateur Speed Skating Association.

Any person who competes must be made members of these associations.  A fee of $80.00 for an individual or $200.00 for a family.

Another requirement is that competitors must wear a regulated speed skating Helmet. Our Club realizes that new members are not in possession of these helmets and has a limited supply of Club helmets that we attempt to make available to new members for their use at meets. All Club members are, however, encouraged to eventually purchase a racing helmet which cost approximately $85.00 plus taxes and are available from Shoe Creations (see Equipment Page).

To get a better understanding of competitions, please view our “Let’s Go Racing” Pamphlet.
