SUCCESSES - OUR CLUB'S MANY ACCOMPLISHMENTS:

The members of the Oakville Speed Skating Club choose to either enter competitions or skate and train recreationally. For those that compete they can be involved in some exhilarating and extremely competitive races.

In 2003/04 for the first time ever 13 members of the club qualified and competed at the Provincial level.  One member also continued on to compete at Canadians and North Americans.  Another member participated in the 2003 Ontario Winter Games.

For the 2004/05 year we had 23 club members qualify for the Provincial Championships and 18 members who competed.

For the 2005/06 year we had 25 members qualify and compete in the Provincial Championships and 6 members who competed in the Ontario Winter Games.  We also had 2 members who competed in the Canadian and North American Championships.  Fantastic!

As part of its continued journey, this season, 2006-2007,  the Club has 37 members who had the ability, opportunity and qualifications to attend the Provincials in March 2007.  This surpassed the Club's goal at the beginnig of the year of having 30 members meet Provincial qualifications.  The Club will have 33 members compete at this year's Provincials, March 10 & 11, 2007.  We expect that Oakville will have one of the largest, if not the largest, contingent of skaters at the Provincials and approximately fifteen percent of all of the skaters at the Provincials. Good Luck to the Oakville Team, which is the strongest the Club has ever fielded.

Four members have qualified to compete this season at the North American Short Track Championship.  These members worked hard to achieve this.  Best of Luck at this meet.  Also 3 of these members will continue on to compete at the Canadian Championship at the end of March.  The Club is very proud of your accomplishment.

In the 2007-2008 the Oakville Speed Skating Club continued to grow and watch many of our new members and our "seasoned" members achieve many successes.  This year we had 44 members who met time standards and meet requirements and were eligible to compete at this year's Provincial Championship, this is by far, the largest group sent by any Club in Ontario.

We doubled our number of Club qualified members in attendance at the Ontario Winter Games from 6 in 2006 to 12 in 2008.  We had 7 members qualified to compete at the North American Short Track Championship and 4 at the Canadian Championship.  Many of these members achieved Personal Bests in their respective distances and had medal finishes.  These outstanding successes where achieved by our members due to their determination, hard work, and family support.
