In the longest road trip of the year, the Pioneer JV Football Team traveled north to Saginaw for a matchup with Saginaw Arthur Hill. Arthur Hill likely wished that Pioneer had decided not to make the trip as the Pioneers blasted Arthur Hill 49-0 to record the first shut out of the season for Pioneer.
The offense was clicking in the first half with 6 unanswered touchdowns led by Austin Sanders (2 rushing TD’s and 2 TD receptions). Sanders scored on 2 TD runs in the first quarter and following a TD pass from Andy Creal (14 for 18, 224 yds and 3 TD passes) to Sam Harshberger (6 rec for 68 yds and 1 TD) the Pioneers led 28-0 at the end of the 1st quarter.
A shovel pass from Creal to Sanders and the ensuing run resulted in a 50 yd TD to move the Pioneer lead to 35-0. Creal ran in for a TD and Pioneer led at halftime 42-0.
Torrey Juide (7 rushes for 25 yds and a TD) scored the lone TD in the second half to make the score Pioneer 49-Arthur Hill 0 and then the defense took over to preserve the shut out.
Jason Matney (2 for 4 for 27 yds) and David Foster led the Pioneer offense at QB in the second half, while Austin Sanders (5 rec for 111 yds and 2 TD’s, Bryan Griffin (2 rec for 38 yds), Robert Bondy (1 rec for 25 yds and Torrey Juide (2 rec for 6 yds) led the Pioneer receivers.
Defensively Pioneer was led by Anthony Soto with 6 tackles, Frank Diaz with 4 tackles, Javon Williams with 4 tackles and Justin Jones, Chris Rollin, Brady Butler and Bryan Griffin all with 3 tackles. Chris Rollin, Jesse Fenno, Bryan Griffin and Anthony Soto also contributed interceptions for the Pioneer defense that constantly frustrated the overmatched Arthur Hill team.
