Pioneer bounces back to rout Monroe 41-6 AnnArbor.com - 10/5/2009It didn't take long for the Pioneer High School football team to bounce back from its first loss of the season.
One week after a loss to Temperance Bedford, the Pioneers took another bus ride to Monroe County and took out some frustration on Southeastern Conference newcomer Monroe, beating the Trojans 41-6 on their home field.
"Our kids just came out and played," said Pioneer coach Jeremy Gold. "We challenged them all week long and they came out and overcame a tough loss."
Senior wide receiver Ricardo Miller caught three touchdown passes from quarterback Miles Sorise and Drake Johnson scored two rushing touchdowns for Pioneer (5-1, 3-1 SEC Red Division).
Jeremy Ross also kicked 37- and 38-yard field goals.
The Pioneer defense clamped down after allowing Monroe to take a 6-0 first quarter lead. Bailey Paull-Baird had two interceptions and the Trojans' leading rusher, Enrique Mendez, had 19 yards on seven carries. |
