The Spring 2009 Season
April 13th: JV Girls Come Oh So Close but lose in Regional Tournament It was a tough way to end the season for a team that had shown consistent improvement. The 2-3 loss went down to the absolute wire. Ally Hangartner continued her trend of quick wins by beating the Roswell #1 singles player in straight sets. Brady Boggs methodically took down a hard serving #3 singles player in two sets. The #1 doubles team of Lauren Hausherr and Kerry McDonough lost the first set in a tiebreak and came back from a 2-5 deficit in the second set before falling 4-6. It came down to the #2 doubles team of Cassandra Chan and Madeline Kennedy the masters of 3 set matches. In true character, they gave it their all losing the first set tiebreaker, winning the second set 6-4, and then losing the 3rd set tiebreaker 9-11 in a heart breaker. Congratulations to the girls and coach Kemper on a great season!

March 23rd: JV Girls Sizzle in Tiebreak Extraganza. The girls took a giant step in progress today with a 3-2 win over Centennial. The higher quality of play was evident on every court. Ally Hangartner triumphed in her 2nd victory of the season over the Centennial #1 singles players. Brady Boggs again displayed her on court agility by wearing down the Centennial #3 singles player in 3 tiebreakers. Lauren Hausherr and Kerry McDonough lost the first set in #1 doubles, but then brought the heat on and gained the deciding victory. Carly Anderson played a tough match losing a tight tie break and then falling in 2 sets. Cassandra Chan and Madeline Kennedy again played a high level match losing in 3 sets to the Centennial #2 doubles team. Thais Voet won her first victory of the season with a 3 set exciting match. Congratulations to the girls and coach Kemper on the team's continuing development! The next match is Wednesday against Harrison at the Lost Forrest courts.

March 18th: JV Girls lose 1-4 to Walton Tennis Machine. The Pope girls fought hard against the Walton firepower but in the end lost 4 lines. Madeline Kennedy and Cassandra Chan continued their excellent doubles play and secured the lone win in straight sets for the Greyhounds. Brady Boggs hung tough in the # 3 singles slot and lost the first set in a tiebreak before falling 6-7, 2-6. Next match is March 23rd at Centennial.

March 11th: JV Girls go down against Lassiter. It was a competitive day of tennis as both doubles teams went to 3 sets, and the singles girls played well but all 5 lines fell. Brady Boggs got revenge for the girls by cruising to an 8-2 exhibition match in singles. Next match is March 16th at Roswell

March 9th: Pope JV Girls notch first win of season over Hillgrove HS.
The JV team was burning on all cylinders today as the girls took down Hillgrove 3-2. Brady Boggs displayed her athletic tenacity and took care of the Hillgrove #3 singles in 3 sets. The Pope #1 doubles team prevailed in 2 sets as Ilyssa Widen dominated the net and Kerry McDonough put pressure on the opposition from the baseline. The #2 doubles team cruised in two sets as Cassandra Chan served bullets and Madeline Kennedy took care of the net. Ally Hangartner played a very tough match and almost pushed the Hillgrove #1 singles player to a third set before finally falling 5-7. Lauren Hausherr hit some of the best shots of the day in a losing effort to the #2 singles. The pop of Lauren's shots could be heard 3 courts down from where she was playing. Thais Voet was pitted against a varsity player and gave it her all in a 1-8 exhibition match. Congratulations to the JV girls! Next match is at Lassiter on Wednesday, March 11th.

March 4th: Pope JV Girls display encouraging individual and team efforts in loss to Milton HS.
The girls continued their tennis education today by facing a tough Milton team with a lot of talent. The girls never gave up and held their heads high. Cassandra Chan and Madeline Kennedy pushed the Milton #2 doubles team. The sun went down and the temperature cooled but Cassandra and Madeline put the heat on the opposition and forced them to play out the match. Next match is Monday, March 9th at Hillgrove HS.

February 25th: Pope JV Girls Go Down Swinging vs Centennial HS
The JV's home match had the entire roster together for the first time of the season. The girls demonstrated why the Pope tennis program has a solid foundation for the future. Taking into account Pope's winning of the exhibition doubles, both schools won 3 matches. Next match is Monday, March 2nd at Walton. February 12th: Pope JV Girls Make Roswell Play
The JV Girls put up a good fight for their first match against Roswell High School. Kerry McDonough, Carley Andersen, Ilyssa Widen/Thais Voet, and Lauren Hausherr/Cassandra Chan all gained valuable experience making Roswell earn their win. Our next match is home against Centenial at the Lost Forrest courts on February 25th. Go POPE JV Girls!
