Background
The Rocks were formed in the summer of 1997 by Tim Sehnert and Greg Laska. These two men had sons that were a part of a traveling baseball team but had since outgrown the age limit to play Legion baseball. To help their sons continue to play baseball during the summer while in college, Tim looked into the idea of creating an amateur baseball team for his sons and other local college kids to play on.
Team Summary
The team has had it's share of success and continues to grow. The Rocks have developed talent and make many personnel decisions as they continue to excel as a winning franchise. From the team's inception, only 3 players remain: Colin Sehnert, Blake Malloy, and John Maslow. The team continues to recruit college talent as well as retain a base of the core players. The team has had many players wear the coveting Rocks uniform, including two former professional players.
Annually after each baseball season, the team organizes the Rocks Olympics which is open to all current and former players as well as their families. The games consist of 3 events: golf, bowling, and bean bag toss and each event is scored individually. The winner is determined by their cumulative score for the events. In 2006, Jesse Tollefson took home the gold, John Maslow the silver, and Tim Sehnert the bronze.
Sponsorship
Throughout the history of this team, there have been 3 different Sponsors
- Team Funded
During the first 4 years and most currently, the team was called the Rocks. Each player was required to pay a season fee that would offset all operational costs
- Rosen's
The 2001-2002 team had an affiliation with Rosen's in Minneapolis. Under the sponsorship, the team was called Rosen's Rocks.
- The Weber Group
For the 2003 - 2005 seasons, the Rocks have formed a relationship with The Weber Group in St. Paul.
The Rocks are still accepting sponsorship bids to help defer some of the operational costs for running a summer baseball team. If you are interested, please contact Tim Sehnert
