Royal High School was founded in 1968. It is located in Simi Valley, California, at 1402 Royal Ave. The Highlanders have a student body of 2,700 students. 2006 brought Royal High School a new Principal in Dan Houghton. Athletic Directors Jim Wilber and Terry Dobbins work hard to support all coaches and prepare student athletes to practice ethical behavior. Royal High School was honored in 2004-2005 by winning the Ventura County Athletic Supremacy trophy.The Royal High School Highlanders compete in the Marmonte league along with Agoura, Calabasas, Moorpark, Newbury Park, Simi Valley, Thousand Oaks, and Westlake high schools. Royal received the California Interscholastic Federation's Champion for Character Award in October of 2006.
The Royal Highlander baseball program has won five Marmonte league Championships and has made the CIF play-offs 14 times since Coach Maye has taken over the program in 1990. Coach Maye led the Highlanders to the play-offs in his first season, which was the first time since 1973. The Highlanders have also won nine tournaments (El Segundo, Newport Harbor, San Luis Obispo, Casey Stengal and the Southern California Invitational Gold division four times, Blue division once) and have been ranked as high as number 9 nationally. Coach Maye has seen 38 different coaches come and go through the other seven teams in the Marmonte League since he started in 1990. Royal has had 16 players drafted and 102 players have gone on to play college baseball since 1990. Head Coach Daniel Maye has led the Highlanders for the past 19 years and has won over 344 games at Royal.
Coach Brian Lipman will be in his fourth season as the hitting coach. Coach Lipman graduated from Royal High School and played at Troy University and Florida American University.
Coach Tony Ortega will re-join the Highlanders in 2009. Coach Ortega will coach first base and will work with the outfielders and hitters.
