This Is What Toys For Tots Is All About

Thanks to those who made Carolina Kids’ Christmas special

As Gandhi once said, “You must be the change you wish to see in the world.” The following people seem to live by this famous quote as well as stretching the boundaries of giving.

Sherry and Ray Morrell tirelessly worked to help provide local children with presents to open for Christmas this year. They organized a softball tournament and had all participants to bring toys for needy children. These toys were given to Carolina Kids, a non-profit organization founded by Dr. and Mrs. Abraham Areephanthu. Through their efforts many children were able to receive something from Santa. They gathered approximately 500 toys. Without their assistance only a portion of these children would have received a Christmas miracle.

Rebecca Walden, who with such devotion wrapped all the presents for these children this year. Not only were these toys wrapped, they were were a treasure within themselves. Each one carefully accessorized with ribbons and tag to match.

Lisa Fagin, a social worker for the Darlington County school system goes above and beyond the call of duty. She often works on her own time, to help these local families and persistently campaigns to assist those most in need. She is a real asset to our community, not only as a humanitarian but a citizen with the appropriate attitude for change.

It has been my pleasure to work with these outstanding and giving individuals this past year. I would like to thank them for everything they do for others and always being read to lend support when needed.

In closing I would ask that not only at Christmas time but throughout the year, we remember that there are children in our community with desperate needs. We must all stretch the boundaries of giving as far as we are able knowing that we will enrich the lives of others.
