Internships Now Available

Long Island's only professional basketball team is looking for interns for the following positions this season:

JocTrac Operator – The JocTrac Operator uses a computer program called “JocTrac” to record the events that occur during each game.  The program uses this information to form a “stat sheet” which the JocTrac Operator is responsible for providing to any coaches who request it.  An automatic version of this stat sheet will appear on a separate monitor for radio personnel to use during game-play, between quarters, and during timeouts.  The JocTrac Operator is responsible for setting up the equipment which they will be using before each game (a laptop, printer, and separate monitor).  The statistics accumulated from JocTrac will also be recorded on the team’s website (both live and archived).  A basic knowledge of basketball is required.

JocTrac Spotter – The “Spotter” assists the JocTrac Operator in their recording of in-game events.  Commonly, the spotter will call out the uniform number of each player who touches the basketball during play, and the actions which follow (pass, shoot, out of bounds, etc.).  The spotter is also responsible for informing the JocTrac Operator of fouls or timeouts as they are called by the referees.  In addition, the spotter will handle the remote control device which toggles the “3D Light” on and off.  A basic knowledge of basketball is required.

Scoreboard Operator
– The scoreboard operator controls the game clock and scoreboard.  They are required to utilize the device which controls the scoreboard, to start/stop the game clock, input foul information, and input recorded baskets so that the large scoreboards on either end of the court are constantly updated.  The scoreboard operator is responsible for ensuring that the scoreboard reflects game information accurately at all times, so that the fans, players, coaches, referees, and scorers, will be properly informed throughout the game.  A knowledge of basketball is required.

Shot Clock Operator - The Shot Clock Operator controls the 24 second shot clock located on both ends of the court.  They are required to be alert at all times in controlling the shot clock, so that the fans, players, coaches, and referees will be informed of how long either team’s possession of the basketball has lasted.  A knowledge of basketball is required.

Cashier – The Cashier works to sell tickets and merchandise to fans who attend the game.  The cashier is responsible for helping to maintain merchandise and equipment in the merchandise room.  At various times throughout game-night, fans may approach the cashier in pursuit of a wide variety of information which the cashier will be expected to provide appropriately (prices of merchandise, schedule details, etc.).  It is required that the cashier greet fans in a welcoming manner as they approach the merchandise/ticket sales area.

Ticket Taker – The Ticket Taker receives game tickets from fans as they enter the arena.  They are responsible for verifying that each fan that enters the arena has purchased a game ticket (with the exception of players, coaches, team/league officials, trainers, arena employees, and people on the will-call list).  They are also required to appropriately provide information to fans and to greet them in a welcoming manner.

Ball Boy/Girl – The Ball Boy or Girl is responsible for keeping track of the basketballs used on game night.  They will collect all of the basketballs that were used during warm-ups and place them on the rack.  They may also be asked to handle other equipment used on game night.
