Who is Sheykan Bayke...?

Sheykan Bayke’s early years remain a mystery to this day.  However, several theories have been formed as attempts to explain the puzzling circumstances surrounding his childhood.  The most prevalent explanation of Sheykan Bayke’s formative years involves his captivity (and ultimately, the erasing of his memory) in an undetermined government facility during the 1960’s.  Many scholars argue that the location to which Mr. Bayke was bound may have been the legendary Area 51 in Nevada.   It is believed that during this time, Sheykan Bayke first became a fan of the ABA, watching games on any television set that he could manage to find.  This must have also been the period of time when Long Island’s favorite chicken was trained in the art of espionage.  At one time, it was believed that Sheykan Bayke served as a pastry chef during his early years.  This rumor has since been debunked, as Sheykan Bayke is severely allergic to pastries.

Soon after the start of the Cold War, Sheykan Bayke was recruited to join the C.I.A. (Chicken Intelligence Agency).  There is very little information available about this period of Mr. Bayke’s life as it is classified as top-secret.  It is believed that his efforts in the poultry division of the United States’ intelligence community earned him a prestigious job offering from the Reagan administration.  Poised to enter the prime of his career, Sheykan Bayke retired from the Chicken Intelligence Agency to begin work in the executive branch of the United States government.

However, it was during his journey to Washington D.C. (scheduled to be a 2,000,000 mile trek, as he had been told that he could use the exercise) that his life would take a turn for the worst.

Sheykan Bayke was distracted by a shiny object in the dirt, which caused him to wander aimlessly on to a Nebraska farm.   It was there that he would return to captivity for three years, performing traditional rooster-duties.  All efforts to locate the beloved chicken fell short, due to the remoteness of the farm in which he was being held.

It was Sheykan Bayke’s inherent love for freedom that motivated him to form an elaborate and successful escape plan.  He spent most of the 1980’s as a motivational speaker, calling upon his experiences in agricultural captivity to encourage people everywhere to "seize the day".

…but according to one historian “the bottom fell out of the motivational speaker market after the crash of 1987.”

And so began a period of self-reflection for Sheykan Bayke.  He would be forced to “practice what he preached” and refuse to succumb to inactivity.  Using the money that he earned as a public speaker, Sheykan Bayke flew to Brooklyn, where he would rent a loft and pursue a career in professional basketball.

He soon became a legend in the New York streetball scene where he earned the nickname “The Victorious E.G.G.”.  Opponents feared his explosive ball handling skills, and his court vision was impeccable.   A toll booth collector by night, Sheykan Bayke earned just enough to get by while holding fast to his dreams of ABA stardom.

In September of 2005, Sheykan Bayke attended the Strong Island Sound tryouts for their inaugural season of play.  It was there that he was noticed by members of the Sound front office.  He had a special chemistry with the other players trying out for the team, and (to this day) claims to have, “taught them everything they know,” during his years on the Brooklyn blacktop.   His agent quickly came to terms with the Sound on a lifetime contract.  “I think he thought he was going to play,” stated one Sound coach.

While he has yet to receive any playing time with the Sound (aside from half time contests) he has settled in to a comfortable role as the team’s mascot.  According to sources, his long awaited memoir (tentatively titled “Chicken Season”) will be released as soon as he can find a publisher willing to pay him more than chicken-feed for it.   In the offseason, Sheykan Bayke enjoys being involved in various community events across Long Island, and is one of the region's most respected philanthropists.
