Depleted Bills Drop Two to the Bronchos 10/13/2009The St. Louis Billikens dropped two games to the Central Oklahoma Bronchos this weekend in Edmond, Oklahoma. The Billikens had an uphill battle from the start, missing scoring leader Phil Blackwood, senior Blake Busse, senior Jim Siepka, and freshmen Eric Wendt from the regular lineup due to sickness and injury.
The Bronchos, ranked 12th nationally at the Division I level took it to the Billikens from the drop of the puck winning 7-2 in the first game. Central Oklahoma extended their lead halfway through the second and never looked back, scoring three more in the third.
On Saturday the Bills got an early start with a power play goal from Ben Leonard on a feed from Johnny Moore and Ryan Wood to take the lead 1-0. COU quickly tied the game three minutes later but Johnny Moore answered only a later to take the lead 2-1. The Bills lost captain Ryan Wood to the emergency room with a badly bruised rib-cage. The Bronchos took over the from that point and dominated the Billikens winning 11-2. Despite the hard losses, the young Billikens team learned what it takes to compete at the DI level for two games and will now be ready to compete at a much faster pace.
