I) High School Players—BUT DON'T RUSH TO SIGN UP!
If you are a dedicated athlete who spends time thinking about improving and getting to another level of performance, chances are you'll love Point Guard College. But, for the athlete who just enjoys casually playing, this is probably not the program for you. It's an intense learning experience that includes three-to-four hours of classroom sessions and six-to-seven six hours in the gym each day. For the student-athlete who welcomes this type of environment, it will be a very special experience, and you'll leave the College a more valuable player.
Age Requirements: Essentials and Think The Game are open to high-school and college players. Mature incoming high-school freshmen are invited—with no exceptions for younger athletes.
“I learned how to be a better crunch-time or pressure player. I learned how to read the defense so that I can make the proper move. I learned how to be a better defender by being in the bubble and gnawing at the pocket. I learned how to move the defense before I attack. I learned how to push the ball up the floor while staying under control and how to be a better leader by encouraging my teammates.”
—Taylor Epperson, Hudson, Wisconsin.
"I have learned to become a better playmaker and to take more initiative in pursuing my dreams.”
—Jacob Seamons, Kuna, Idaho.
II) College Players
The curriculum for each course has been designed with the college player in mind. We've found that the more basketball experience a player has, the more he or she seems to benefit from our programs—so college players are invited to attend. Also, many of you that are entering college will have to make the transition to a guard position, and you'll suddenly be asked to handle the ball, score from the perimeter, lead the fast break, and create openings for your teammates. Point Guard College will help you learn how to do all of this and more.
“I loved it. It made me look at basketball in a whole different way. I've played basketball my whole life and no one has taught these things to me before. They broke things down and taught you more than you needed to know. I want to go back. I told our coach that they should make all of our players go."
—Mel Thomas, University of Connecticut.
"I found PGC to be an ideal place for players of any age who are serious about becoming a better basketball player"
—Justin Conway, Princeton University (Team Captain).
III) Players of All Positions—Not Just Point Guards
We teach the game, not a group of skills specific to one position. While a good point guard must know the game, talented players who play intelligently are always more valuable—no matter what position they play. Naturally, many point guards sign up, but shooting guards, forwards and post players will benefit—as long as they are truly eager to learn the game.
“I already have a college scholarship but these days have been WELL worth the money. Every gym session would be helpful to ANY basketball player, not just point guards. I would definitely recommend athletes of all ages to come to PGC.”
—Epiphany Woodson, University of Miami (Atlantic Coast Conference).
“I always play the ‘3’ or the ‘4’ spots and will never play point guard. But so much of basketball is not about what position you play—it’s just about playing the game. And the way that PGC teaches you to ‘just play the game’ is second to none.”
—Emily Niemann, NCAA Final Four All-Star, Baylor University, Southwest Conference.
IV) Coaches
PGC serves as a valuable "coaching clinic," and coaches are welcome to sign up. Almost every coach that attends Point Guard College says that he or she got even more out of it than the players.
“This is by far the best basketball camp that any coach or player could ever attend. The skills developed here will help these young people for the rest of their lives. From myself, my children and every player I will ever coach in the future—THANK YOU!”
—Coach Bobby Williams, Huntersville North Carolina.
