The Point Guard College curriculum features three courses for athletes and coaches that are designed to teach players how to train effectively, play smart basketball, become “coaches on the court,” and demonstrate leadership during games, practices and in everyday life. Participants receive a university-style educational experience, including:
Classroom Learning Sessions
You will need a notebook and pen to take full advantage of PGC. Two-to-three times a day you will attend classroom sessions, where you will be expected to listen attentively, take notes and ask questions in order to deepen your understanding of the game.
Video Analysis
You will study actual game footage to see examples—both good and bad—of every aspect of the game. These in-depth study sessions will help you learn to play—and watch—basketball in a more intelligent way.
Court Time Designed To Reinforce Good Habits
PGC’s gym sessions are designed to turn the concepts that are taught in the classroom into productive action on the court. At PGC, we never “just roll out the basketballs and let 'em play.” Each moment of every court session is carefully planned to maximize learning. A unique set of drills and game situations are used to build physical and mental habits that lead to smart, effective play.
Training in Leadership and Communication Skills:
Special players positively impact the work ethic, focus and effort of their teammates. At Point Guard College we will teach you how to get your teammates to work harder, work together, overcome adversity, and succeed in the long term.
Sessions Include:
- Meals and accommodations at the host college for four nights and five days.
- A Session Director who works with you all day—from 8:30 in the morning until 10:30 p.m.
- A final exam to test what you’ve learned.
Players that Attend PGC Return to Their High School or College Programs with:
- An enhanced understanding of how to think and play the game.
- Practical leadership skills that will help your team win games.
- A heightened sense of inner confidence.
- A renewed enjoyment of the game.
- Tools for individual off-season training.
- A notebook full of strategies for on-court and off-court success.
- And much, much more.
“I learned a ton. As much as I learned on the court, what I got out of it the most was from the lectures on leadership and confidence. It opened my eyes, and I got that love back that I was kind of missing last year."
—Kristi Toliver, University of Maryland, First team All-American and 2009 Atlantic Coast Conference Player of the Year.
“Point Guard College is an intensive indoctrination into how to play smart, minimize turnovers, and be a good leader. These are great, great teachers of the game.”
—Rick Allison, Executive Director, Lone Star Basketball Academy, Arlington, Texas.
“PGC is basketball in its purest state—players who are eager to learn, coaches who are enthusiastic about teaching, and an atmosphere filled with positive energy. This is an experience that the players will take with them and apply to all aspects of their lives.”
—Coach Jimmy Johnson, Eddyville, Kentucky.
