Xtreme Knockout out of Arlington, Texas is another promotion that hopes to put on 10 to 12 shows a year.   On January 10, 2009, they will be hosting their second event (their first was a pankration style show back in 2002) at “The Gym”.  If you are a pro wrestling fan and live in north Texas, you are probably familiar with Professional Championship Wrestling (PCW) and the owners, the Bussey family.   “The Gym” has been around since 1989 when it opened up to be a training center for martial arts and wrestling.   In 2000, they began putting on pro wrestling shows and eventually ended up producing weekly events for UPN 21 for over 3 years.  Although they are currently on hiatus for the holiday, they consistently put on a Saturday pro wrestling show every single week.  In 2008, the TLC channel began airing a new reality series called “The Bussey Bunch” which focused on the Bussey family’s day to day life as they manage their wrestling business.  Although this show is no longer on the air, you can check out the full episodes at www.xtremeknockout.com. 
Although, the family has been focused on wrestling for the last several years, martial arts and MMA has always been important to their business.   As I pointed out, they hosted their first MMA event back in 2002, which might be one of the first ever MMA events in the DFW area.  Now they’re back and according to Thomas Bussey they want to focus on MMA with a goal of putting together monthly shows that would be broadcasted on the local level, similar to their UPN gig.  Ultimately, they’d love to put shows on in a large venue with a national broadcast deal, although they plan on taking the transition into MMA slowly and steadily.  They are not going to book a huge venue and throw a ton of dollars at advertising on their first event.  They plan on utilizing a grass roots marketing effort that focuses on speaking directly with MMA fans whether it be at martial arts schools, MMA events in the Texas area, MMA gear shops, or sports clubs/bars that are showing fights. 
On January 10, I fully expect to see a thrilling well produced mixed martial arts event.  With several years of producing wrestling shows, I’ve got a feeling they know what they are doing.  As we get closer to the fight, I’ll provide an update on the full fight card.
