The tryouts were well attended with over fifty potential players on the ice.  Coach Bill Sturdevant was impressed with the overall quality of the skaters and felt that Wasilla would field two good solid teams this season.

The varsity squad will be practicing after school every day followed by a dry land workout.  The junior varsity squad will probably have two practices per week.  The schedules are not final and will be made public on the web site as soon as they are known.

Bill Sturdevant, assisted by Jeff Urban will coach the varsity team and Leed Nord will coach the junior varsity team.  A volunteer to the coaching staff is Ryan McMullan.  Due to work commitments, he will be assisting with coaching for two weeks on and two weeks off.  Ryan originates from Chugiak and played defense for UAA.  I watched him run the final sheet of ice during tryouts and was very impressed with his discipline and control of the players.  What came to mind was Herb Brooks in the movie Miracle - "Again!"  (the players will know what this means).

Unfortunately, not everyone could be chosen for the teams.  I take my hat off to the new players who tried out and the experienced players who encouraged and helped them.  Good work to everyone.
