Watertown Cardinals Bulletin Board5/25/2009Cards beat Neosho in RRL play Jason Ninmann's walk-off single to right center in the bottom of the ninth drove in Pat McFarland with the game-winning run as the Watertown Cardinals beat the Neosho Rockets 4-3 in a Rock River League Southern Division game Sunday at Washington Park.
The game was scoreless heading into the bottom of the sixth when Watertown (3-0 RRL, 4-2 overall) finally broke through against Neosho starter Nick Archambeau.
Archambeau's off-speed stuff kept the Cardinals hitting high fly balls until the sixth, when he walked four straight batters with two outs. Jason Ninmann, Nick Cahoon and Eric Johnson all walked to load the bases for Tim Schlatter, whose walk broke the tie.
The Cardinals extended their lead to 3-0 in the seventh when Derek Ninmann hit a two-run double to left center off reliever Ray Lauersdorf.
Watertown starter Brett Yost held the Rockets scoreless until the eighth, when Travis Steger scored on a wild pitch and Warren Braunschweig hit a sacrifice fly to make it a one-run game. Yost left after the eighth, having allowed two runs on six hits with five strikeouts and three walks.
With Andy Schwantes relieving Yost in the top of the ninth, Brandon Egnarski twice beat out close plays to the bag when he reached on an error and advanced to second on a fielder's choice with two outs. Brad Kaul tied the game with an RBI single.
In the bottom of the ninth, leadoff hitter Pat McFarland was hit by a pitch, Tyler Kopplin drew a walk and Derek Ninmann bunted the runners over to bring up Jason Ninmann, whose base hit to right ended it.
Schwantes got the win in relief, while Kaul took the loss.
Watertown lost to Kewaskum 9-6 in a Tri-County Nite League game on Saturday. Brandon Gutzdorf took the loss, allowing seven runs on seven hits with three walks and no strikeouts in three innings.
The Cardinals host Mayville in a TCNL game Wednesday before playing a pair of Rock River League games over the weekend. On Saturday, Watertown plays at Johnson Creek. On Sunday, the Cardinals host Clyman.

Road losses to Ashippun in 2007 and 2008 cost the Cardinals a spot in the Rock River League's Grand Championship playoffs the past two years.
In 2009, the Cardinals opened the Southern Division slate by shutting out the host Mudcats 7-0 Sunday.
Watertown (2-0, 1-0 RRL) scored four runs in the top of the first inning and three more in the ninth. That was more than enough run support for Cardinals pitcher Andy Schwantes, who scattered seven hits with two strikeouts and one walk in a complete-game shutout.
The Cardinals used four hits, two walks and an error to open up a 4-0 lead early on. Derek Ninmann, Nick Cahoon and Schwantes all had RBI singles in the rally. Cahoon scored the other run on a throwing error.

Watertown plays a Tri-County Nite League game at Rubicon Saturday, then hosts Lebanon in a Rock River League game on Sunday.
