POTTER CHOSEN AS INTERIM HEAD COACH AT ST. JOHN FISHER

The Watertown Wizards, proud members of the New York Collegiate Baseball League, are pleased to announce that 2009 field manager Brandon Potter has been named the interim head baseball coach at St. John Fisher College in Pittsford, N.Y. Potter replaces former head coach Dan Pepicelli who resigned to become the pitching coach at Clemson University. St. John Fisher is an NCAA Division III school that competes in the Empire 8 conference.

The position is Potter’s first intercollegiate head coaching assignment. The 2004 St. John Fisher graduate has worked previously as an assistant coach at Minnesota State University and Cerro Coso (Calif.) Community College; he also served as a graduate assistant at St. John Fisher under Dan Pepicelli following the conclusion of his collegiate playing career. As a head coach or assistant, Potter has mentored six players chosen in the Major League Baseball draft.

Outside of collegiate baseball, Potter has professional experience in the Triple-A International League. He worked several seasons as the bullpen catcher for the Buffalo Bisons.

Last summer, the Canadaigua, N.Y., native guided the Wizards to a fifth-place finish in the New York Collegiate Baseball League’s Eastern Division. Under Potter’s watch, eight Wizards were selected to participate in NYCBL all-star festivities (more than any other team) and three (Kosuke Hattori, Brant Jones and Neiko Johnson) were named to the NYCBL postseason all-star squad. Hattori, who also played for Potter at Minnesota State, won the Eastern Division batting title and set a franchise single-season record with 57 hits.

Potter was a standout catcher during his playing days. He was an all-region backstop at Finger Lakes Community College in 2001 and then garnered All-Empire 8 accolades at St. John Fisher in 2003 and 2004.
