The West York Canine Lacrosse Club, a member of the York County Lacrosse Association, was founded in the spring of 2006 by Marcus Sweitzer. The club's first season had a roster of 16 boys. In the 2007 season, the club grew to 60+ boys. The 2008 season saw the club grow with the addition of a girl's middle school team and a U9 and JV team. There were 96 student athletes participating in the 2008 season for the Canine Lacrosse Club.
The club is based on sportsmanship and the student athletes are taught to honor the game of lacrosse. The coaches are required to be registered through US Lacrosee and are required to take the online coaching courses offered by US lacrosse alomng with attending the hands on sessions offered by US Lacrosse. Each coach is required to have background checks and completed prior to coaching each season and they are also required to attend the PCA (Positive Coaching Alliance) class.
The coaches preach the ROOTS sportsmanship motto to all of the student athletes from the first day of practice until the very last game of the year.
Roots stands for
R= We refuse to bend the rules to win.
O= A worthy opponent is a gift that brings out our best.
O= We show respect even when we disagree with the officials.
T= We never fo anything to embarass our team or club.
