8/20/2009Fall 2009 Try Outs

The 18u Yard Sharks will hold a second tryout session for the upcoming 2009-10 season on Sunday, August 23rd at Carmichael Park; Field 4 at 10:00 a.m.  We have just completed a very successful summer season that included winning Sac metros, the Sparkler & All Star games in Colorado and going to Nationals in Vegas.  Our fall season will include premier showcase events and tournaments both locally and throughout the State.  We will play both 18u and Gold level events.  We have a strong and very competent roster with only a couple of holes to fill as a result of our 2009 players moving on to the next level.  Our emphasis will be on a seasoned pitcher with a strong mental and physical presence on the mound.  We are also looking for an impact player with versatility on the field.

If you’re interested in scheduling a try out, please contact Joe Price at 916-539-8835 or email at priceja@comcast.net  Please watch our website for additional information.  www.yardsharksprice.com

10/7/2008Its Up To You!
If you're interested in obtaining a college scholarship to play softball, its time to get serious about making it happen!  As a reminder, most college scholarships are not a full ride.  Most are partial rides and may combine athletic and academic money.  Just one reason why good grades and college prep courses are so important.

First and foremost, please realize that its up to you to make this happen! We can help you through the process and will be playing in showcases and other large tournaments which will allow college coaches an opportunity to see you.  In most cases, however, the coaches will come see you because you've asked them to come!  Most coaches don't stop by to watch a game unless they're looking for a specific player or team; or if your team is in the championship game of a tournament!  If you do the work necessary, i.e., writing letters, calling, etc., you will increase your chances of getting seen by coaches and offered a scholarship.

We will continue to list necessary steps and direct you to resources that will help you in this quest.  Please check back for bulletins that will be posted here on our site.  Two things that we recommend you do now, in addition to taking SAT/ACTs and registering with the NCAA Clearinghouse (see 10-6-08 bulletin) are:

1.  Purchase "Preparing to Play Softball at the College Level" by Cathy Aradi.  The cost is about $38 plus shipping; its worth every penney!  This book gives you a step by step on the College Recruiting Process.  Go to our Links to easily jump to Cathi's site.

2.  Register with ASA Lorrie Ivey.  Lorrie, of Southern Cal ASA, as an excellent relationship withmany colleges.  She sends out frequent email updates on schools looking for players by position and/or graduation year.  There is a one-time cost of $25 to be included on her mailing list.  She sends colleges a list of prospective recruits so that you can get on their radar.  Go to our Links to easily jump to Lorrie's site.
