YMCA programs provide physical fitness opportunities for youth that have few other options for structured, fun and safe activities. YMCA leagues develop teamwork skills while promoting healthy lifestyle choices and the value of exercise. The play that draws youngsters to youth sports can build lifelong positive attitudes, habits of healthy exercise and good nutrition, and ways to have fun as adults.
YMCA youth sports keep competition in perspective, letting everyone enjoy the fun of sports without feelings of rejection or failure. YMCA programs value include:
• Cooperation over competition • Fair play over winning at any cost • Good feeling and good health over a good score • Character development over developing the next superstar • Building self-esteem
YMCA youth sports programs emphasize team effort. Organized teams and leagues promote development of basic skills, learning rules and strategies, and gaining an appreciation for lifetime participation in fitness activities. YMCA programs also provide opportunities in values development: teaching how to compete with honor, developing a sense of fair play, promoting the spirit of inclusion, encouraging good sportsmanship, and working with a team towards common goals.
PARENTS - GET INVOLVED!
We are always looking for volunteers to coach and assist with our youth programs. What better way to teach your kids the YMCA values than by setting an example! For information on volunteering, please contact the Sports Department at 770-513-5951.
