Welcome to the unofficial website for the Northwood High School's Track and Field Team. The team is coached by Mark Brown.
Coach Brown Sizes Up His Team's Winter Highlights
These are some personal observations from Mark Brown, head coach of the indoor track and field squad at Northwood HS, about individual performance highlights at several recent meets this winter.
ShaQuella Newby, Enricco Ruemante and Zoey Rowley have all been consistently improving on their times in the 500 and 800. Both Zoey and Ricco are ranked in the top 8 in the region in the 800 and have an excellent chance of finishing in the top 4 at regions and could potentially qualify for the state meet.
Naami Wagner has tied her personal best performance in the pole vault and is currently ranked 3rd in the region.
Martin Olney has declared himself they best shot putter at Northwood HS since the reopening of the school with his throw of 43 feet. He currently ranks 6th in 3A West. If he finishes in at least 6th place he would be our first shot putter to place in the region meet and if he finishes at least 4th he'll be the first to qualify for the state meet.
Le'Quisha Parker and Yamu Sarr are ranked in the top 5 in both the 55m and 300m dashes. Additionally, they join Blair Morales and ShaQuella Newby on the 4x200m Relay Team which is 1st in 3A West and 2nd in the state by less than a second. Also, Damascus ranks 3rd by less than one second. This should make for an interesting event at the regional meet."
The next track meet is set for Wednesday, Feb. 10 at 4 p.m. at the Prince George's County Sportsplex. The state track meet will be held on the following Tuesday, Feb. 16, also at 4 o'clock at the PG Sportsplex. Athletes who finish at least 4th overall in their respective events at the county level will qualify to compete in the state meet. -- posted by jay p. goldman, 2/1/10

Wintry Mix Can't Deter Gladiators in Indoor Opener
The Northwood indoor track and field team competed in its first meet of the season on Saturday (Dec. 5) at the Prince George’s Sportsplex. Unfortunately, the meet was stopped short due to the worsening weather weather but not before the Gladiator performers got some recognition.
Kudos are in order for the girls 4x200 and 4x55 meter relay teams, which finished 4th and 6th, respectively. Also, the Northwood boys 4x200 meter relay team finished in 8th place.
Martin Onley set a personal record in the shotput with a throw of 40 feet, 3 inches, placing him third overall in the event.
