Oregon Elite and the new 28.5 Adidas Elite League

Good news for Oregon Elite as our program has been chosen to be among the inital club teams to be accepted into the new 28.5 fall league.  Teams in the league, in addition to Oregon Elite, are Arizona Elite, BC Denver, Fresno Lady Heat, Natalie Williams Basketball (Utah), NW Blazers (Washington), San Antonio's Finest, San Diego SOL, Team Lex (Texas), Texas Elite, Texas Lonestar, and Vegas Lady Heat.  Games will begin on October 3-4 in Phoenix with additional tournaments in later Oct., Nov., and Dec.  Oregon Elite will field two 17 U teams and a 15 U team.  There is a possiblity that OE could do a 13 U team also-will know more on that soon.  Notices have been sent out to select OE members and there will be room for about 10 new players at the 17 U level and 7 players at the 15 U level and, potentially, a entirely new team at the 13 U level.  If you would like to be considered for a spot on the roster, please contact Coach Lavender at lavoebc@gmail.com as soon as possible as spots are getting taken quickly.  This new league will NOT interfere with the high school winter season which is scheduled to begin in late December, 2020.

Oregon Elite Final Results for Spring and Summer 2016

It was another banner year for OE as they ended the 2016 NCAA viewing schedule on July 29 in Anaheim, California.  The program again won over 100 games over the spring and summer and drew praise from tournament organizers and the crowd of collegiate coaches who followed the teams during the season.  OPur Black team played up one, and sometimes two grade levels and ended with a 21-18 record while our Red team ended the summer on a 9-1 run winning brackets in Atlanta and Anaheim, ending the season 21-19.  Our White team was outstanding all season and won brackets in Vancouver, B.C., Atlanta, and Anaheim while ending with a 31-8 record over the time.  Our Navy team won 30 games (30-9) again for the 5th year in a row.  Great season!

Oregon Elite Invitational Results

Sunday marked the end of the 8th annual Oregon Elite Invitational and all our teams were very successful.  Our overall program record recorded 13 wins while only losing 2 games and one of those was at the buzzer as 3-D Elite 16's Fraser Valley upset our Black team 42-41 with a long range 3 point bank shot!!  Results for the spring are below--great spring!!  Now our student/athletes return to their respective high school programs for the June summer season.  OE returns to the floor on June 30 with an early morning practice and a quick trip to Vancouver, B.C. to participate in the Western Canadian Championships!!  OE-OE!!

Oregon Elite Black-6-6

Oregon Elite Red-9-3

Two More Signees for 2016

Congratulations to Tamika Etherly and Reina Strand for signing National Letters of Intent to attend Centralia College and Minot State next year.  Both players did well in Phoenix and Vancouver in April and drew attention for several collegiate programs.  With their signing, the recruiting class of 2016 is one of the best in OE history.  Nine players have landed full ride scholarships for the next season!!  Congrats!!

Oregon State Beavers move to the FINAL FOUR!!

Congratulations to the Beavers as they defeated Baylor Monday 60-57 in the semi-finals of the NCAA D-1 Tournament and advanced to the Final Four for the first time in school history!  Our OE players Deven Hunter, Katie McWilliams, and Samantha Siegner have been instrumental throughout their collegiate careers pushing the Beavers to this level.  The OE staff and all of Beaver Nation are very proud of this team and will be watching Sunday as they take on UCONN!!  GO BEAVS!!!!

Bando leads the Ducks into the WNIT semifinals

Early Signings

The November signing period will be upon us soon and OEBC expects to have many of their top players sign with D-1, D-2, D-3, and NAIA schools.  OEBC will up date the site when those verbals start coming out!

Final Results

To say this was one of the best records by OEBC during its short history would be an understatement.  The over-all record in 2014 was 106-49 while last year's was 100-54.  Each team's breakdown looks like this: (2013 record)

Black 12-8 (14-7)

Navy 33-6 (32-6)

Orange 19-11 (18-14)

Red 24-10 (17-14)

White 18-14 (19-13)

The Navy team won the Seattle MSNM Tournament and the Nashville Music City Maddness Tournament.  The Black team won the Puget Sound Classic and our own OEBC Invitational.  Our Red and Orange team placed in almost every tournament while our White team, hindered by injuries, played some of the best ball of the summer.  It was a great summer of basketball and also fun off the court.  OEBC losses some great seniors but the heart of our program returns again for the 2015 season.

Navy 6-2 (2 tournaments)

Orange 5-3 (2 tournaments)

OEBC Invitational (15-5 all teams)

The entire program had a very successful weekend as all 5 teams participated in our own tournament at LOHS and Beaverton High School.  Our Black team continued their outstanding play by winning their bracket with a 4-0 record, defeating both 5th Quarter and Vanport in overtime.  Our Navy (3-1) team was upset by Sagebrush Hoops 60-59 in over time for their only loss while the Red and White both finished 3-1.  The White team was especially impressive in their 68-52 win Sunday morning.  Our Orange team ended up 2-2 while displaying some grit and determination in their Sunday games.

Yakima Results

Our Black team had another great weekend on the road as they finished the Best in the West Tournament 2-2 in Yakima over Mother's Day weekend.  Our team beat the eventual champion, Spokane Smoothies, Saturday afternoon in one of their best games of the season.  However, they fell in overtime to 5th Quarter Saturday evening, knocking them out of the championship round.  They recovered Sunday morning and soundly defeated Seattle YEA.  The team was gracious Sunday mornig as they presented flowers and balloons to all the mom's in attendance.

Puget Sound Classic Champions

Congratulations to the Black team as they swept through the competition May 3-4 in Renton, Washington.  It was a total team effort as they defeated the Seattle Pride, Puget Sound Flight, Newport, and Hoopaholics to win their first tournament of the season.  The improvement from the Arizona tournament to this tournament  was impressive.  The 8th graders now travel to Yakima this coming weekend to play in the prestigious Best in the West Tournament.  YGLI!!

Arizona Elite Tournament results

It was a great weekend in sunny Phoenix, Arizona April 24-27 as the OEBC program started the club season with an outstanding performance.  With a combined record of 14-7, all 5 teams performed extremley well.  Highlighting the weekend were all 4 of the high school teams.  The Navy, Orange, and Red teams recorded 3 and 1 records as the Red won the consolation bracket, while the Orange lost to the eventual 17 U bracket winner in overtime, and likewise the Navy ended up 3-1 as they lost by 1 to the eventual 17 U Super bracket champion.  The White team (4-1) lost in the championship game of the 17 U bracket.  Our Black team was 1-3 but improved dramatically during the tournament.

Change of Summer Schedule

All four teams will be at Charlotte, N.C. for the ASGR Event at the Carolina Courts July 27-30.  This tournament is a three day tournament and replaces the Austin Tournament which was only a two day tournament.  The teams will travel from Nashville on July 26 and back to Portland in the afternoon of July 30.  The side bar on the front page is the correct schedule.

Final Thoughts on 2013

This was perhaps one of the most successful seasons for OEBC since its inception in 2007.  There is a good chance that up to 10 players will sgn with either a division 1 or a division 2 school this fall.  In addition 3 or 4 more may sign at the D-3 or NAIA level.  This was a talented group of seniors.  However, the cupboard is not bare!!!  We have an outstanding group of juniors and sophomores returning which will make 2014 even more competitive.  Coach Lav will be out all winter watching players throughout the Northwest for players to compete for OEBC.  If you are an underclass player and feel you have what it takes to play for OEBC, please contact Coach Lav at Lavoebc@gmail.com and he will contact you about a tryout or a workout.

Second Half Summary

We landed back into Portland July 30 at midnight after a great July season.  I cannot thank the teams, the staff, and especially, the parents* that accompanied the team enough for all the positive help they gave.  It was a tremendous team effort.  All our teams were very successful and I can honestly say that the vast majority of the players improved drastically over the entire club season which began in April and ended July 30.

*Special thanks to David McKinney for all his work in taking stats fro the Navy and Orange teams!!

Nashville

We had an uneventful journey to beautiful Nashville on Saturday. A few bumps on the way into Nashville but it was nice to see the active thunder and lightning, stuff we don't see in Western Oregon.  All four teams practiced for 2 hours at A Game on Sunday morning, it was great to stretch their legs and get them back into the basketball routine.  After practice we headed downtown to Nashville to enjoy the sites and, especially, the sounds of Music City.  The players had a great time shopping and just getting a feel for all that makes Nashville so unique.  I actually think the parents along on the trip enjoyed the time as much or more than the players.  It is great to have such positive support on the road.  Things begin in earnest today as all four teams open play in the Music City Madness.  Will keep the site up dated as we proceed through the second half of the viewing season.  YGLI!!!!!

First Half Summary

What a great first half-the phone is ringing off the hook for all of our players.  You are doing everything right. Keep it up the good work-Nashville is approaching very quickly--YGLI!!!!   All Satrs chosen over the first half were:

Seattle MSNM Tournament

The Navy team pushed through the all the "Elite" brackets finishing with a 7 win no loss record and claiming the championship.  They were outstanding in all 7 games and claimed the recognition of being the Best in the West!!  The White (4-1)semi final of Elite Bracket, Red (4-1) semi final of All Star Bracket, and Orange (3-2) were also on point all week.  What a great example of OEBC basketball.  Great work by all the teams and coaches!!

Oregon City EOT

This was the big tournament that sets off the viewing season against the best club teams west of the Mississippi.  Our White team battled but lost to some really good Elite teams finishing this tournament with a 1-3 record.  Both the Orange and the Red teams finished with a respectable 2-3 record.  Our Navy (5-1) team played very well losing only game and finishing in 5th place out the the enitre Elite bracket.

Oregon City Shootout Results

All five teams did an outstanding job at this tournament that begins the summer viewing season.  The Black team ended with a 3 win 2 loss record losing in the opening round to the eventual champion of their bracket.  Tremendous job for our 8th graders as they ended their spring season with a 14-7 record.  The Red team finishedwith a 2 win 2 loss record along with the Orange team.  The White team ended with a 2 and 3 record while the Navy (4-1) team placed 2nd in the Elite Bracket losing to the Cal Stars Elite.

Oregon Elite Spring Invitational

All our teams played well during the 3 day event.  Our Navy team won their repective pool and lost in the cross over game to finish the tournament 3-1.  Our White and Orange teams started slowly but really improved to finish the tournament with identical 2-2 records. The Red team started strongly but lost a couple of games Sunday to finish also with a 2-2 record.  Our Black (8th grade) team lost to eventual the eventual champion in the first game and came back to record a 3-1 record.  All players now return to their repective high school teams and will resume practice on June 27 and then the Oregon City Shootout June 28-30.

8th Grade wins Pool but lose in first round

Our OEBC Black team rolled through their pool in Yakima over the weekend but lost in the first round of the play-offs to a hot shooting NW Blazers team 50-41 Sunday morning.  The Black team beat Lady Style 54-50 in a late Friday game and then handled A Plus out of Seattle and Bantam Basketball from the Tri-Cities Saturday setting up the Sunday morning game.  The Black team ended the tournament with a 3 win 1 loss record!!  They resume play this coming weekend as they open play in the OEBC Invitational at Lake Oswego High with a 7:00 p.m. game against Hoopsource.

8th Grade Places 2nd

Our OEBC Black team finished the WTA Spring Fling with a runner-up postion in the twelve team tournament in Kirkland, Washington.  They displayed some physical toughness by playing four games in less than 20 hours over the weekend.   The 8th graders improved dramatically and ended the toournament with a 3 win 1 loss record.  Great job!!

Great Start in Arizona

OEBC jumped off to a tremendous beginning to the club viewing season with a stellar start in the Adidias Spring Tournament sponsored by Arizona Elite.  The Navy team was very impressive as they ended the tournament 4-1.  They had over 50 different collegiate coaches at most of their games over the weekend.  Likewise, the White team drew attentiion through the weekend going (2-2) while the Red, Orange, and Black team posted soild 2-2 records.  For the first tournament, the coaching staff was very satisfied with the progress and improvement at this early date.  All five teams have so much potential and managed to achieve the goals for this tournament.  THe Black (8th) team will be in Kirkland this coming weekend!!
