HTML ISSUES: a broken Home Page

There are many things that can "break" your Home Page, causing loading issues or preventing some modules from appearing.

Causes: Pasting text

Use "Paste From Word" to paste text from ANY source. This includes text copied from other sites, emails or even documents like Word documents. Pasting text using "Paste" or Ctrl+V on your keyboard can paste bad code in the text area. This code can immediately break your Home Page or even linger and case issues later on. When text is pasted from multiple sources, the bad code starts conflicting and causing major issues.

Tip: the Clean HTML tool can be used to clean an entire text area of bad code, but it will also remove your formatting that you'll have to re-apply.

Causes: HTML

Make sure to paste HTML code using the "paste Code (or plain text)" button. Pasting code directly into the text area will not work, and will often break your page.

Solution: The Home Text Debug Page

There is a link to the Debug Page at the bottom of the Edit Home Page, and also in the loading message if you page is not loading. Use the debug page to access the code directly. Most often, this is to find and remove the last ting you pasted that caused the break.

I don't see the Debug Link?

Try pasting this URL in your admin pages to open the Debug Page:

Trick to fix broken code

Often, a broken Home Page is due to missing code. In order to fix this, follow these steps:

1. Access the Debug Page

2. Copy everything in the area causing issues.

3. Delete everything you copied, and save.

4. Open the blank text area normally by pressing Edit above it.

5. Press Paste Code (or Plain Text). Paste all of the code, and Insert

6. Save

The program should automatically fix broken code, and often fix the page, though some of your text elements that were broken may need to be deleted.

Adding Images and Files to your text areas

You’ll first have to go to Layout & Media > File Manager to upload your photo or file. Right click/Shift click the image in the preview section to open the properties of the image. Copy the link/URL from the properties. Next, go back to the text area you would like your photo. Press the Insert/Edit Image button in the text options, and insert the URL you copied form the properties.

The URL should look like this:

http://www.hometeamsonline.com/photos/SPORT/USERNAME/NAMEofFILE.jpg

Enter your correct sport, username and the full name of your file as it appears in your File Manager for the image URL.

You can also insert videos, documents and other files using the same procedure.
