IMPORTANT - CKeditor has compatibility issues with IE 10 :
An auto-swap has been implemented to revert to the TinyMCE editor for IE 10 users only. We recommend TinyMCE for IE 10 users to avoid issues. If you are an IE 10 user and you really want to use CKeditor, you can temporarily flip to "compatibility" mode in IE by clicking the "broken page " icon in the browser address bar - but we recommend clicking back when done.
There are a number of popular web page text editors available. Since each has unique features and drawbacks, we have installed several options for our users:
- CKeditor - This is the default editor. It has many features, and generally leaves the existing HTML code as is.
- TinyMCE - This editor has some advanced features, but also will reformat HTML code which may result in unwanted effects.
- HTML_code - A pure text only editor. You can view and edit the HTML code directly. Great for power users, cutting and pasting code, and troubleshooting.
- IE_Legacy (Internet Explorer users only) - This was our original editor, but it only works in IE. It still is a good editor, and if you have complex pages with embeded code you may want to continue using it.
We have designed the pages to allow you to "hot swap" your editor while you type. This will allow you to use certain features found in one or another editor, and give you a chance to review before you finally click "Save". Note that after you save the editor will reset to the default.
IMPORTANT: When you switch editors your page content will be reformatted! - Back up all you work before making this change. (You can usually cut and paste into Word or a formatted Email, or you can switch to the code view and copy the code as plain text to be sure you make a complete copy.)
CHANGING THE DEFAULT EDITOR: Contact support and we can change the setting for the default editor. Changing the default will affect all the pages on your website that have a text edit area.
CKeditor
An "Advanced Editor" with many features, and it doesn't reformat the page the way the TinyMCE editor does. We have linked it to the Image Manager that lets you view thumbnails of your images, and even rotate and crop them. It also allows multiple files to be uploaded at one time. There are many other new features, for example you can insert special characters such as ®, or emoticons, plus powerful tools such as a CSS editor, as well as an option to download a spell checker.
TinyMCE
This "Advanced Editor" has the most features, including all the features of the CKeditor plus some additional media embedding tools. However this editor tends to reformat the pages, and has some issues that cause it to fail for certain browser situations. We made it available for power users, however be sure to backup work, especially when changing to and from this editor.
HTML_code
A clean text only editor that simply shows the code. There are no styling and formatting features, you will need to have some understanding of HTML and CSS to use it. This is great if you want to be 100% sure you are copying all the code on the page exactly as it is. Since many programs (such as email) interpret and format HTML code on the fly, be sure you copy into a text only program, such as "Notepad".
IE_Legacy
The original "IE Legacy Editor" does not have as many features as the advanced version, however existing users, or users with older browser may want to keep using this version to avoid unexpected formatting changes. It is a very stable editor.
NOTE: This editor does not wok on preview pages such as game or event previews. Also, it is not compatible with IE 10 on WIndows 8.
FAQS:
What if my page gets messed up!?
If you try an Advanced Editor and your page content unexpectedly gets reformatted, contact support and we should be able to resolve the issue.
Why can't the TinyMCE editor just leave my code as is?
The same reason this editor has more features is the reason it "messes" with your code. The auto-reformatting is "built in" - otherwise the program and its features cannot function and work in all broswers.
Why can't we just add the features to the IE_legacy editor?
This is a similar issue as the last question - the additional features can only function if the page content (HTML and CSS code) adheres to the most strict webpage standards. Internet Explorer has different standards than other browsers. This is an unfortunate result of the "browser wars" - browser developers each have their own special "features" that only function when using their software. Advanced modules won't work until non-standard code is removed.
