Team Advancement Rules

When a bracket runs in more than one stage, Pool Play into Finalists for example, the standings page is where teams move up.

waiting for scoresThis team is in position to advance, but the scores that decide it are not all in yet.
not advancingOn the standings as they stand, this team does not go through.
advance to the next stageUsed between two stages, as in Pool Play to Finalists.
advance to the finalsThe curved arrow with the trophy is the last stage, where the qualifying teams play for the championship.

Standings only appear once scores are entered. Enter a single game score and the table starts filling in.

Quick start: advancing teams
  1. Enter scores. The standings fill in on their own as you go, W, L, T, PF and PA.
  2. Watch the advance to column and the two icons above.
  3. Once the scores are in, the Advance Teams button changes from waiting for scores to ready to advance.
  4. Click it. The selected teams move into the next stage.

Changing your mind afterwards can mean resetting and redoing the settings, so it is worth a look before you click.

Setting your advancing rules

If you have finals or qualifying brackets, set the rules before you need them.

Under How Many Teams Advance there is a wide rounded button reading something like Pool Play → Finalists   4 teams. It does not look like much, but it is the button, and clicking it opens Advancing Rules.

In there you set how many teams come out of the stage. Either give a total and let it divide, or set each pool separately, so Pool A sends four and Pool B sends four.

The dialog shows the receiving stage next to it with its slot count, so you can see straight away whether the numbers line up. Eight teams advancing into eight slots is right. Four advancing into eight leaves half the bracket empty.

Ties, overrides, and going without scores

Tiebreakers are applied for you, on point differential.

To override any of it, click the pencil under Notes. That covers a tiebreak you want decided differently, disqualifying a team, or simply handpicking who goes through.

You can also force teams through without the scores. Useful when a game will never be played and you are not going to wait for it.

Seeding the next stage

Teams that advance appear in the next stage's standings list, and you decide the order they are seeded in.

Set it with the seeding drop-downs, or leave them unseeded if the draw does not need it.

Nothing is live until you click confirm seedings. Until then you can rearrange as much as you like, so it is safe to experiment.

Finishing up

Once every bracket setting is done, including the advancing brackets, carry on to the schedule games step.
