Training

We have developed formal team policies. These policies are to clarify the academic, attitude, attendance and behavior standards we expect from our lacrosse athletes.   Please take the time to review the team's policy together as a family.  Everyone must be clear what the expectations are, and understand the consequences of falling short of these requirements.

I. GENERAL INFORMATION

Classroom Work: It’s disappointing when a player is ruled ineligible for academic reasons. In
order to be eligible you must maintain at least a 2.0 GPA without any failures. If you receive two
D’s or E’s in any courses you will be able to practice but not play. If you receive three E’s you
will not be able to practice or play in games. Don't let the team down and yourself down.
Academics come first then your family. You are expected to attend all of your classes. The
instructors at Walled Lake Central are interested in your success, give then a chance. During the
season the coaching staff receives updates on your progress. If you are having academics
challenges speak to your coach or counselor and come with a plan. WE are here to help and
academic assistance is available!

Public Image: The fact that you are member of the Walled Lake Central Lacrosse team
automatically puts you in the spotlight. Your actions are scrutinized by many in the public. You
are not only expected to follow the rules of the school, but to set a proper example. Conduct
your moral life in an adult and orderly manner, it will only work to your benefit if you develop
and display appropriate manners and leadership while you are attending Central.
Attendance: You are expected to be at school for every class! Failure to attend all six class
periods in a day renders you ineligible to participate in any practice or game that day. You will
need to provide a doctor’s note, attended a funeral, or went on a college visit. Any exceptions
will be cleared by the head Coach after consultation with the player’s parent or guardian.
Off Season: We offer opportunities to get stronger and improve your skills. Make the most of
them.

Substance Abuse Policy: There is zero tolerance for athletes to use alcohol, illegal or harmful
substances. The rules and punishments set down in the Walled Lake Student Athlete Code of
Conduct will be strictly enforced.

II. PRACTICE
Attendance: Practice and game times have been given to you. I will expect you to be at all
practices in their entirety with few exceptions (funerals, college visits, family emergencies,
illness). Missing practices or leaving them early will result in suspensions. Unexcused tardiness
for practice will not be tolerated. You are expected to be on the field and ready to practice at
the scheduled time. On the field does not mean in the locker room, in the training room, tying
your shoes, in the rest room, etc. If you are late then expect to run after practice for the same
amount of time you were tardy. You must text a coach if you will be late or absent from
practice or a game. Injuries: All injuries must be reported to the coach and to the trainer, Erin, so that proper
treatment can begin. Prior to practice, it is your responsibility to see the trainer on time.
Remember, you must be on the field at the start of practice.
Practice Attire: Full equipment must be worn at all practices and games. Make sure you have a
mouth guard and cup.

III. TEAM

This a team game. You are expected to commend and applaud outstanding play by your
teammates during practices and games. Inappropriate “trash talking” between teammates will
not be tolerated. Players who talk disparagingly of any player or student in the building in a
manner that resembles bullying will miss games and/or be dismissed from the program. I will
not tolerate nasty text messages, mean Facebook postings or tweets, or other use of media
to hurt another teammate or fellow WLC student. Overall, students should remove
themselves from any situation in which these actions are taking place.

IV. ATTITUDE

Family, academics, lacrosse. You are part of a growing program. Not everyone has the
opportunity to step on our field and play for Central. This is an honor that is earned. I have an
open door policy. Anyone can approach me to discuss any situation. We must follow protocol
by first approaching your team’s head coach to resolve a problem, then the Varsity head coach
if necessary, and then the Athletic Director if the problem remains unresolved. We are a large
family, take pride in our program. Don't be a “me” guy, but a WE teammate. Make a
teammate better each day.
