NATIONAL LEAGUE WEST

CHAMPIONS!!!

The Playoffs began on a hot day in late July to a host of questions for a Glory team that had been bitten by the injury bug, but pushing back to almost full strength for the early playoff game against the rival Pacemakers, the Glory struggled to get things going early.

Then the 5th inning came and John VerPlank would lead off the inning with a single that would catapult the Glory to nine hits in a row and 16 crazy runs and their first Championship birth in Glory franchise history.

Cody Marble drove in 7 RBIs and Jason Jacobson would have a career night with his 5 RBIs.

The Championship game brought Northview EyeCare back to the Glory for a rematch.  Not fairing too well earlier in the Season, the Glory needed ace pitching from Veteran Justin Smith and hitting like the Playoff game finished with...well, they got just that!  Smith gave up only ten runs while batting 2 for 3 and scoring two times.

Eric Veenstra popped off two home runs, including the game winning, walk off home run in the bottom of the 5th to solidify his place as Championship MVP.

Peyton Newman batted 4 for 4 and gathered one extra vote for playoff MVP to break the three way tie with Cody Marble and Eric Veenstra.

The Glory pulled off an impressive upset to win their first Championship in Franchise history and under first year Coach Erik Jacobson.

After the game, Erik Jacobson met with the Press:

"We played like a team tonight, in both games. When it came time to produce runs, we did, and when it came time for us to play defense, we sometimes did. I couldn't be more proud of this all star team."

Stay tuned for Seasonal Award nominations....

Bats Go Cold!

Injuries kept Wytcherley sidelined and Erik to DH, but despite the rookies stepping up again, the Glory couldn't get hits against former Glory shortstop turned pitcher, Randy Sturdavant. Laudin went 4-5 and added some great defensive plays. Unfortunately, the Glory are struggling to hold up against the higher caliber teams late in the Spring session.

The Glory will be challenged again this week against Fox Chevy and HB Sports again.
