Team Selections
Players must be evaluated before selected for a team. Final selections will be posted on the website.
Approximate Roster Sizes
Note: Final rosters may be slightly more or less based on tryout evaluations. The maximum number of roster spots may not be filled.
Varsity roster and game rotation: Our priority is to give an opportunity to as many players as we possibly can to be a part of the varsity team. However, the normal game to game rotation will probably be 15-18 players, maybe even smaller in district, city, and postseason games. Our goal is to do our best to identify these potential rotation players at tryout. At this time if a player is not considered in the top 20 depth wise, it is unlikely he will break into the regular game to game rotation. Individual discussions will take place with those who we would like to be a part of the team, but who we don’t feel quite crack this top group at the time of tryouts. It will be up to the player and his family if he is willing to accept this role on the team. For any players who do not make the varsity roster, there are opportunities to still be a part of the team in a manager type role. Please talk with the coaching staff if interested in fulfilling this position.
Tryouts Format
A 1.5 mile fitness evaluation on the running track (6 laps) will be conducted at the first tryout. JV players should strive for 1.5 miles in 12 minutes, while varsity players should aim for 1.5 miles in 10 minutes. Please note that a player will not be cut if he does not meet these times - this is an assessment only. The rest of tryouts are designed to properly evaluate the individual ability of players in 1v1 situations up to a full field 11v11 game. We may also extend some evaluations into normal preseason practice so we can evaluate in team based training. We teach a technical brand of soccer that focuses on possession of the ball, so we are looking for players who are comfortable with the ball at their feet and who limit turnovers. We are also looking for players who fit our program culture - be great at the things that don't require talent!
