Track Meet Nights Protocol
All of the track meets are held on the High School Track just behind the high school and North Oakview.
Your child's coach should be wearing the same color T-shirt if you need to find them on these days.
We are going to try running the field events at the same time as the races to speed things up a bit, so we will need more volunteers. Teams will assemble on the infield (football field).
Most coaches will ask for a parent to sit on the blanket and monitor the kids who aren't running a race, to keep them safe and under control. We ask any parents, grandparents etc. not helping out to please sit in the stands as we have a lot of traffic already on the field.
Field Event ribbons are generally handed out at the following track meet. The only exception to this will be the final track meet where we work to get them distributed by the end of the night as we finish the season.
At race time, we will begin with the National Anthem and the 800 M Fun Run. All ages will assemble and run this at the same time. This is not a mandatory race, but if your runner is feeling up to it, it's a great way to kick off the night.
We ask that you not cross the track any more than necessary. Our timers and spotters need to be able to see the starter as well as each lane, and this extra traffic limits our ability to move through the races quickly.
We begin with the short sprints; 50 M, 75 M, 100M - starting with the K-2 division, then 3-4, then 5-6
Next comes the 4 x 25 M relay for K-2
Following that, comes the 4 x 200 M relay for 3-4 & 5-6
We then move to the 200 M dash for all age divisions - after this event; all K-2 participants are finished for the night
Next is the 400 M dash for 3-4 & 5-6
Finally we finish with the 4 x 100 M relay
FYI - we use the sound system to call races and make announcements that needs to be heard down on the field. In the meantime, we play music to keep a fun atmosphere for everyone. I know in the past sitting in the stands has been a little loud from the music. Please bear with us as we try to find a level that isn't overbearing to those sitting in the stands but works for coaches and participants on the field.
These meets are a lot of work, but what a great night of excitement and fun - we hope you enjoy them as much as we do.
Thank you!
