Green Knight Nominated for I AM SPORT Award

Ryan Koliopoulos '21 and Peter Schuh '22 were recently named finalists for the I AM SPORT award from USA TODAY High School Sports (North Jersey).

 

The I AM SPORT Award was created to honor high school student-athletes who volunteer their time to benefit those in their community.

 

Koliopoulos was a member of the #9 ranked Green Knights hockey program this winter, all while preparing for his certificated as a volunteer EMT in Ringwood. He serves as a special education para for a catechism program in his home parish and assists their annual art show fundraiser.

 

Koliopoulos has participated extensively in SJR's ministry programs, including the Covenant House Sleep Out.

 

Get out the vote! SJR was the only school in North Jersey with TWO (2!) finalists. Of the fourteen finalists, the trio with the most votes will be invited to the awards show in June where the winner will be revealed.

NJ Devils Name Gary Hess 2019 Dr. McMullen Service to NJ Hockey Award Winner

 

The NJ Devils announced that Gary Hess will be the 2019 Dr. McMullen Service to NJ Hockey Award winner. Named after the late Dr. John J. McMullen, who brought professional ice hockey to the Garden State in 1982, this award has been presented by the New Jersey Devils since 1984 to an individual or individuals who have supported amateur hockey throughout the state of New Jersey.  

The NJ Devils will be honoring Gary Hess during their Youth Hockey Night on Sunday, February 17^th as the Devils take on the Buffalo Sabres. Peter McMullen, Dr. McMullen’s son, will present the Hess family a plaque in Gary’s honor.

Knights On the Road: New England

The Green Knights hockey team played a pair of games on Dec. 8-9, 2018

On Sat, Dec. 8, the Green Knights took on Lowell Catholic. followed by a reception with friends, family and alumni as UMass Lowell hosts Boston University for the second game of the doubleheader.

For those a bit further south, the team faced off with Bishop Hendricken in North Smithfield, RI on Sun, Dec. 9. After the game the two programs celebrated mass together.
